About the role:

Samsara’s Legal team strives to create value and ensure that Samsara meets its mission by providing accessible and business-oriented legal guidance. Samsara is looking to hire an Associate Commercial Counsel - Public Sector to join our growing Legal team! You will be responsible for negotiating and drafting contracts with Samsara’s federal, state, and local Public Sector customers as well as our business partners and vendors and using your strong legal and interpersonal skills to ensure contracts are aligned with business objectives and needs. You will help improve and scale Public Sector contracting workflows and implement and maintain Public Sector business partnerships, including related to contracting vehicles and cooperative purchase programs. While your main focus will be to partner with the Public Sector teams and support Samsara’s business relationships with federal, state, and local government customers, you will also support deals for Samsara customers from other industries. You will also focus on managing, building, and implementing contract management tools and workflows across multiple internal teams and stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate RFP responses, contracts, and subcontracts with Samsara’s federal, state, and local Public Sector customers under numerous award instruments, contracting vehicles, cooperative purchase program agreements, and other similar transactions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with all categories of Samsara customers, business partners, and vendors, including software license agreements, RFP responses, reseller and other business partner agreements, vendor agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Partner with the Public Sector Sales, Sales Operations, and RFP teams and support Samsara’s contracts with federal, state, and local government customers and related business partners.
  • Manage, build, and implement contract management tools and workflows across multiple internal teams and stakeholders that are scalable as the company grows, including with respect to Public Sector deals, common contract-related requests, and tracking non-standard contract terms.
  • Provide legal advice on and serve as the first point of contact for contract matters, inbound contract-related requests, and non-standard contract term requests.
  • Manage and maintain contract templates and repositories and website terms of service.
  • Build strong relationships and work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, including Public Sector, Sales, Sales Operations, Finance, Procurement, RFP, and other relevant teams.
  • Assist Legal team with various projects on an as-needed basis.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 2+ years of contracts management and contracts experience, including related to government contracts, RFPs, contracting vehicles, and cooperative purchase programs.
  • Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and other federal, state, and local acquisition policies, processes, procedures, and contracting laws.
  • Excellent contracting drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that allow for clear communication (both written and verbal).
  • Interest in being a true partner to our business stakeholders and immersing yourself in the ins and outs of our business and the industry in which we operate.
  • Ability to build, develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships.
  • A high degree of professional integrity, ethics and sound judgment.
  • Be a highly proactive self-starter who delivers quality work within tight timelines.
  • Be humble, adaptable and flexible, with a growth mindset and desire to work on a variety of matters.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
  • Membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience at a government procurement agency and/or established federal contractor.
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating software license agreements.
  • Experience with contracts management systems.
  • Experience at a tech company.
  • Fluency and/or experience working in Spanish and/or French.
