Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a motivated Emergency Management Deputy Planning Section Chief . This professional will have the opportunity to be a part of Tetra Tech’s growing national emergency management and preparedness practice with a passion for making a positive and lasting impact in the places they work.
JOB SUMMARY:
The chosen applicant for The Deputy Planning Chief position supports the Management of the Planning Section Chief in handling the initiatives of coordination and management for wildfires. This position helps the Incident Action Plan (IAP) to be developed, carried out, and adjusted in order to properly handle the expansion of the wildfire. While promoting cooperation across several teams, the Deputy Planning Chief makes sure that planning efforts complement the strategic objectives and operational requirements of the incident. The Deputy Planning Chief will be in charge of organizing data and gathering analysis of incident data to help with the operations schedule management and all daily dispatches to all project participants and stakeholders concerning environmental scheduling. Good knowledge of Smartsheet's scheduling and project tracking keeping tool devices.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college required
Preferred Certifications:
- FEMA Certificate Level 400 & 50
Experience:
- The Deputy Planning Section Chief works in a dynamic and often high-pressure environment, particularly during large-scale incidents. Long work hours and the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
- Training - Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) and relevant training certifications (e.g., ICS-400, NIMS).
- Experience being away on project sites for long periods of time.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams of emergency management practitioners in the development of solutions to complex emergency management and public safety challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of the planning process, decisions made, and changes to the IAP.
- Integrate risk management practices into the planning process to ensure a proactive approach to potential issues.
- Prepare and present status reports to the Incident Commander and other stakeholders.
Skills:
- Knowledge of and experience in applying the concepts, theories, principles and practices of emergency management, hazard mitigation, and planning.
- Provide guidance and training to other team members and stakeholders as necessary.
- Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Decision-Making: Ability to make informed and timely decisions based on available information.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a variety of public and private sector executives.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities to complete work in a timely manner, despite changes in workload or assignment, pressure of deadlines, or competing priorities.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to make project management decisions based on quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Skilled at anticipating future consequences and trends accurately while creating competitive and breakthrough strategy plans.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Works well within a team structure.
- Excellent problem solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
