The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Police Department as a Crime and Intelligence Analyst. The Corona Police Department is made up of 250 employees including officers and professional staff. The department is comprised of three divisions: Field Services, Investigative Services, and Support Services. Our mission is to ensure the safety and security of our community while maintaining trust through transparency.

The Crime and Intelligence Analyst performs specialized technical support work utilizing automated law enforcement systems, geographical information systems, a variety of software, and crime and intelligence analysis techniques to provide a wide range of services and products to police officers, detectives, and management to use in identification and apprehension of criminal offenders.

Knowledge & Education

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminology, business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Possession of a certificate from an accredited program of study in Crime and Intelligence Analysis is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of administrative and operational analyses, research evaluation, and methodology.
  • Knowledge of common business computer applications and platforms, including but not limited to: MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures of conducting crime analysis and research, including data collection, statistical analyses, and report preparation.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to recognize, identify, and document crime series and patterns.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and document complex statistical data.
  • Ability to properly develop and interpret complex tables, charts, and graphs.
  • Ability to analyze operational objectives and issues, evaluate alternatives, and reach sound, logical, fact-based conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to effectively make presentations to various groups.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional experience involving the analysis of criminal activity.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Experience with ArcMap, ArcGIS, Crystal Reports, Computer Aided Dispatch, and Automated reporting systems are highly desirable.

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt eligible for overtime compensation.

Candidates that successfully pass the screening process will be invited for an in-person oral interview tentatively scheduled for October 10, 2024. Those who pass the oral interviews will be placed on an eligibility list and will be contacted by the department to start the background process as vacancies arise.

The selected candidate will undergo a thorough background investigation and medical exam with the Corona Police Department. Background investigation will include but is not limited to the following:

  • No felony conviction(s).
  • Submit to a fingerprint and criminal history check - State and Federal Bureaus.
  • Good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.
  • United States high school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • No conviction(s) of a serious offense, or numerous convictions of minor offenses.
  • Submit to a polygraph examination.
  • Successfully pass a medical examination.
  • Credit history check, if established, must be satisfactory.
