Department Information

The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS), an Interdisciplinary Research Institute at Georgia Tech, solves societal, technological, and scientific challenges by integrating knowledge, methods, and expertise across disciplines:

  • Fundamental science to comprehend and control matter from the nanoscale to the mesoscale.
  • The synthesis, processing, and characterization of materials to achieve desired properties.
  • The design and fabrication of novel devices and components with enhanced capabilities.
  • The integration of materials, devices, and components into larger systems.
  • Computing, modeling, simulation, and big data to advance progress at all length scales.
  • Integration of economic, business, and social factors to ensure sustainable and equitable benefits in all stages of research, from conceptualization to impact.

IMS enables interdisciplinary research in areas including:

  • Microelectronic technologies that efficiently sense, process, store, and communicate information while addressing issues related to security, privacy, and inequality.

Job Summary

Responsible for basic level design, integration, implementation and modification of assigned user information systems. This includes coordination of the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of those systems. Provide functional and technical expertise in support of user systems operation and maintenance. May include support of labs, training facilities and general IT office software and hardware. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: departmental users. This position typically will advise and counsel: departmental systems staff. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Conduct needs analysis, planning and scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware/software.
Job Duty 2 -
Develop functional and technical IT system requirements and specifications.
Job Duty 3 -
Provide technical support through allocating systems resources, managing accounts, administering passwords, documentation, security, recoverability and access.
Job Duty 4 -
Monitor and reports on system performance.
Job Duty 5 -
Maintain hardware and software inventories including developing and updating departmental distributed software license management policy.
Job Duty 6 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Up to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with design and implementation of customized websites to include front end css, database tables and process logic.
  • Experience with low/no code development environments such as OutSystems or Mendix.
  • Experience interacting with website end users, determining needs and implementing solutions.
  • Experience providing customer support and training for website use.
  • Ability to research, adapt and implement new web technologies as needed.
  • Problem solving abilities both individually and in groups.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures associated with IT systems design, installation and maintenance.
