Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director , Residen tial Education (ADRE) is a 12-month, full-time, live-off, master’s level professional staff member serving as an integral part of the leadership team for Residen tial Life & Housing Services (RLHS) . The Associate Director will have direct oversight of the residential student development and the effective administration of our entire residential community , home to a diverse population of more than 1,700 students within more than four residential properties.
The Associate Director’s p rimary responsibilities can be further defined within the areas of supervision , student and professional staff recruitment, training, and development , residen tial education , and department and University responsibilities. The Associate Director may perform other departmental and University duties in the Director’s absence.
SUPERVISION
- Direct supervision of at least four full-time professional staff , including Residence Director (RD) and the Administrative Office Manager (AOM) for RLHS.
- Indirect ly advise more than 40 student staff , includ ing Graduate Residen ce Director (GRD) and Resident Assistant (RA) .
- In coordination with the Director of Student Conduct, p rovide guidance and support to the RDs regarding a dministrative h e arings , adjudications, and decision letters , in their role as Student Conduct Hearing Officers.
- Schedule, plan, and lead weekly Hall Team M eetings .
RECRUITMENT, TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
- L ead efforts to r ecrui t , hi r e , and on-board vacant professional staff roles i n RLHS .
- Provide oversight, guidance, and approval for the planning and implementation of RA Recruitment and Selection .
- Provide oversight, guidance, and approval for the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive RA Training programs taking place in August , January, and monthly in-semester.
- C reate and implement a 36 0-degree evaluation process for RDs , RAs, and resident ial students .
- Encourage, develop, and foster professional development opportunities for Residen tial Life professional staff.
RESIDE NTIAL EDUCATION
- Coordinate with the Assistant Provost for Retention, to develop and extend the First Year Experience (FYE) program for residential students, with a focus of re- integrat ing and expand ing Living Learning Communities (LLC) .
- Develop and advise the Hall Team s in the creation of a campus-wide Residen ce Hall Council .
DEPARTMENT & UNIVERSITY RESPONSIBILITIES
- C ollaborat e with the RLHS leadership team to develop and execute policy and decision making for the daily and long-term operation of RLHS, align ing with departmental, divisional, and University vision s and goals.
- Serve on the 24 hours a day, 365 days a year Administrator on Call (AOC) rotation , providing guidance and decision-making support to the Residence Director on Call (RDOC) for their response to emergencies.
- Maintain complete oversight of , and recommend projections for, the Residential Education budget (roughly $ 8 0,000 + annually ) by reviewing , approving, and tracking all programming and suppl y expenses .
- Develop strong connections with campus partners to promote ongoing RLHS operations and report back important information which allows RLHS to function at a high level.
- Serve as the primary, first point of contact within RLHS for student, parent, and family concerns about their residential education experience through emails, in-person meetings, and phone calls.
- As needed, hold hearings for, and adjudicate, conduct cases as a Student Conduct Hearing Officer .
- Continually reflect and assess the needs of RLHS to recommend future additions to staff or modifications to current roles and processes which allow the department to continue operat ing efficiently.
- Serve on departmental, divisional, and University committees as assigned and/or interested.
- Assist with divisional and University-wide events , including, but not limited to: Open House, Suffolk Showcase, Family Weekend, Convocation, Commencement, Academic Recognition Day, Leadership Awards, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of RLHS, Student Affairs, etc.
- During peak times, w ork extended hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends . Extended vacations are limited to non-peak times during the year.
