Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
1. Assists students with career exploration through internships, shadowing experiences, employment, volunteering and other career-related activities about the world of work for two colleges at DSU
2. Assists with coordination and facilitation of job site tours, career fairs, job fairs, workshops and other career related activities.
3. Assists students with occupational, educational and employment research using experiential learning techniques and automation.
4. Assists students with establishing short-and long-term career goals and career plans for mobility and progression.
5. Assists with career education curriculum development and instructional techniques.
6. Assists with developing and facilitating training sessions for professional development, career education, succession planning, and on- and off-campus recruiting.
7. Assists with conducting needs assessments for students, faculty and employers.
8. Refer students to other support services when necessary that are outside the scope of career service.
9. Facilitates career education seminars in workplace readiness, leadership development, teamwork, organizational management, and career kinetics. Creates learning outcomes for each seminar/workshop/classroom session and evaluates session effectiveness.
10. Directs students to vocational resources and assist with submission of applications for graduate school, scholarships, grants, financial aid, and employment.
11. Supervises work-study students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Good working knowledge of and experience in methods and theories of career development, career coaching, counseling, conducting and assessing skill inventories.
2. Minimum two (2) years experience and proven success with interacting effectively with multicultural students at collegiate level.
3. Knowledge of curriculum development and classroom management.
4. Knowledge in labor relations, employment and staffing.
5. Ability to present information effectively in a classroom or seminar format.
6. Good written and oral communication skills
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Qualification Standards
1. Education: Master's degree in an Education, Counseling, Human Resources, or other human relations field.
2. Successful experience: Minimum three (3) years experience in career and/or academic coaching, advising, and counseling at collegiate level.
3. Other preferences: Experience in developing and managing special projects. Experience with innovating and managing academic and career-related programs.
