Geotechnical Engineer

Karen Clark & Company (KCC) seeks geotechnical engineering professionals to join our growing team of catastrophe model developers. In this position, you will work closely with scientists and other engineers to build out our global suite of advanced earthquake models.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature surveys of geohazards related to earthquakes, implementing new studies for loss modeling applications
  • Collect, compile, and analyze loss data regarding earthquakes, liquefaction, etc.
  • Perform validation tests on model loss estimates
  • Contribute to preparing technical documents and presentations related to scientific models
  • Conduct post-event damage surveys for natural disasters around the world

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical or Earthquake Engineering required, PhD preferred
  • Knowledge of ground motion; ability to understand and implement ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs) is required
  • Knowledge of building response to and damage from natural hazards is a plus
  • Experience with QGIS or ArcGIS software is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, keen orientation to detail, an eye for professional presentation, and recognized organizational abilities
  • Knowledge and experience in statistics and probability is a plus
  • Ability to travel within the US or internationally with little advance notice
  • Experience in catastrophe modeling a plus
  • Knowledge of C# programming language a plus
