The Mechanical Technical Lead will provide innovative technical leadership to the mechanical discipline through the development and maintenance of the quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) processes and ensuring that the technical members are qualified and trained to perform the work. The Mechanical Technical Lead serves on the company's Technical Practice Committee, assists in the development of annual goals and initiatives for the company's technical practice, and is responsible for implementation within the mechanical discipline.


This position is a role within the company that is performed along with other roles, including roles on projects as well as possible department or group management positions.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Develop, maintain, and implement QA/QC practices and processes
  • Develop and maintain checklists
  • Develop and maintain guides and standards
  • Ensure availability of applicable industry codes and standards
  • Conduct project reviews
  • Perform quality audits and assessments
  • Develop and maintain mechanical discipline SharePoint site
  • Identify technology trends and evaluate and recommend discipline-specific software and new technologies and ensure members within mechanical discipline receive adequate training on their use
  • Be involved in hiring and promotion process for members of the mechanical discipline, in association with other leaders and managers
  • Recommend personnel assignments for project team positions, in association with other leaders and managers.
  • Ensure appropriate QA/QC and technical training is being offered and taken by members
  • Be visible to clients and prospective staff by attending discipline- and market-related conventions and seminars, participating in professional and trade organizations, and presenting and/or publishing technical papers
  • Attend and participate in Technical Practice Committee meetings
  • Maintain contact with mechanical discipline members through various forms of communication
  • Establish and maintain a database of subject matter experts (SMEs) within the mechanical discipline

Professional Experience, Strengths, Capabilities and Expertise:


  • Bachelor's degree related to the mechanical discipline with a preference for an advanced degree
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (and ability to obtain registration in other jurisdictions)
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated design experience
  • Preference for having published in peer reviewed journal(s) or presented at recognized technical conference or seminar
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Stanley's Approach to Flexibility:


While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home. Eligible roles can also offer a compressed workweek schedule. Members who participate will be assigned a 9/80 work schedule, meaning every other Friday off!
