Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for leading projects within operations that drive improvement in the manufacturing process and are significant in scale. This includes implementing improved manufacturing technologies and resourced materials, upgrading existing processes, leading Lean improvement events, and specific safety, quality, or efficiency improvement projects as assigned. The Project Engineer must have a strong manufacturing engineering background and be able to manage projects while working collaboratively with team members across multiple functional groups.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead projects with involvement from multiple functional areas including Manufacturing, Quality, New Product Development, Engineering Test Lab, and Sourcing.
  • Track progress for major projects using Microsoft Project or similar tools.
  • Act as the main manufacturing engineering resource for projects including creating CAD system designs, fixture designs, and plant layouts and developing/improving the manufacturing process.
  • Identify opportunities for cost improvements by reviewing reports of efficiency data and BOM costs.
  • Partner with Sourcing on qualifying new vendors.
  • Design and develop PFMEAs and control plans for new and existing processes in manufacturing.
  • Lead Lean initiatives including Kaizen events and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Train manufacturing team members on new processes.
  • Communicate and articulate concerns, findings, and solutions at all levels of the organization.


Required Training, Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or other applicable study.
  • Experience as an engineer in a manufacturing setting.
  • ISO 9001/IATF 16949 experience, including risk-based thinking and analysis.
  • Lean - Sigma training and certification – Green or Black Belt.
  • Practical project management experience and knowledge and understanding in using core tools - APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, & SPC.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software.
  • CAD experience
