The Security Engineer SME shall support the Government’s security efforts in migrating the current National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system to the cloud for the next generation system (N3G).

Responsibilities

1. Plans and implements security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and data from loss and service interruptions.
2. Analyzes and documents security risks, breaches, and other cyber security incidents and the damage they cause.
3. Develops and implements a network disaster recovery plan and oversees the monitoring of the computer networks for security issues.
4. Collaborates with the security team to perform tests and find network weaknesses.
5. Researches and keeps current on the latest IT intelligence technologies, trends, and security standards.
6. Performs work with a high degree of latitude. Handles the most complex issues. Possesses expert knowledge of subject matter.
7. May act as a lead.
8. Engineer, implement, and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information.
9. Identify and define system security requirements.
10. Designs computer security architecture and develops detailed cyber security designs.
11. Prepares and documents standard operating procedures and protocols.
12. Configures and troubleshoots security infrastructure devices.
13. Develops technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
14. Ensures that the Government has awareness of and details associated with security incidents.
15. Writes comprehensive reports, including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement.
16. Supports, as necessary, the pursuit and approvals of Authority-To-Test (ATT) and/or Authority-To-Operate (ATO).

Qualifications

1. A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in system architecture, systems engineering, or security architecture.
2. A minimum of ten (10) years of providing technical guidance on security architecture development, secure software development methodologies, techniques, and best practices; reviewing and evaluating new or enhanced development methods for security implications and providing recommendations for their use, with particular emphasis on public cloud providers.
3. A minimum of five (5) years of experience reviewing and evaluating system designs and architectures for potential security weaknesses and providing recommendations on mitigations.
4. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in:
1. Building and maintaining security systems.
2. Obtaining detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security.
3. Security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
4. Network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools.
5. Understanding the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols.
6. Being familiar with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols.
5. Top Secret Security Clearance with ability to attain SCI.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Prior work experience with the Federal Government, particularly with the FBI.
2. Current security certification such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or the Certified Information Systems Security Management Professional (ISSMP).

Pay Range

$185,000 - $200,000
