Position Summary

The Assistant Director assists in the coordination and administration of all student services for the School of the Arts and Architecture. Assists with the management of the Office of Student Services and to departmental counselors. Provides oversight of student engagement programming and initiatives. Serves as a delegate on university committees and works closely with the Director of Student Services and the Associate Dean/Executive Director of AEDI on planning in the areas of curricular development and student services. Advises students on University, School and departmental requirements as well as counsels students on diverse issues from matriculation to graduation.


Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  1. Working knowledge of university and School rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to student affairs and academic programs. (Preferred)
  2. Working knowledge of Undergraduate Admission and Registrar's Office, and other key student services offices such as Career Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Center for Accessible Education, and Financial Aid (Preferred)
  3. Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity sufficient to assist students of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds in the resolution of problems and for purposes of advising. (Required)
  4. Skill in analyzing information, situations, and practices and procedures to define the problem or objective, to identify relevant concerns or factors, to identify patterns, tendencies and relationships, to formulate logical and objective conclusions, to recognize alternatives and their implications (Required)
  5. Skill in developing and coordinating student engagement opportunities and spaces. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required)
  6. Ability to perform a variety of duties with frequent interruptions and ability to work effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload. (Required)
  7. Skill in negotiating, exchanging ideas/information/opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and arrive at decisions, conclusions or solutions. (Required)
  8. Ability to organize materials, information and people in a systematic way to optimize resources for effective delivery of services. (Required)
  9. In-depth knowledge of UCLA student records systems (OASIS, SAWeb, Counselor Desktop, applications, and degree audit update. (Preferred)
  10. Skill in writing grammatically correct, logical, and concise emails, letters, reports, including recommendations for student actions to the Associate Dean. (Required)
  11. Skill in keeping detailed documentation on student advising and all operational aspects of Student Services. (Required)
  12. Knowledge of the arts. Skill in editing HTML. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  1. Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of education or experience (Required)
