Job Overview
The Chief Executive Officer provides leadership for all aspects of the Iowa Gaming Association’s operations with an emphasis on proactive legislative and regulatory advocacy, plus media and public relations.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain proactive legislative and regulatory advocacy
- Register as a Lobbyist with the State of Iowa for the IGA to proactively advocate on legislative matters important to the IGA and its partners
- Develop and maintain effective media relations to be the foremost voice for Iowa's casinos
- Promote and enhance the gaming industry's positive image throughout Iowa via educational material distributed to the legislators, executive branch, press and other organizations
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with the Commissioners, IRGC staff and other state agencies with ties to gaming oversight
- Coordinate with the board of directors to direct the IGA's annual goals and objectives
- Ensure responsible fiscal management and administration of IGA funds
- Works closely with IGA Treasurer on monthly financial performance and results
- Facilitate collaboration and cooperation among the members to create a spirit of unity
- Organize a robust associate member campaign with annual events to thank the vendor companies for their involvement
Qualifications :
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent understanding of the legislative process including strong relationships with legislators in both chambers and political parties, caucus staff and executive branch
- Effective understanding of the regulatory process and the ability to establish a close working rapport with IRGC commissioners and staff
- Effective communication skills, particularly the ability to advocate on gaming legislative, regulatory and public relation issues
- Strong member relations skills to establish rapport with the casino management and understand each of the gaming companies' structure
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of ten years professional experience in the legislative and regulatory process and/or association management
- Knowledge of gaming industry management, issues and history is preferred
- An advanced degree in business, public relations, political science or law is preferred

- Must have excellent leadership, organizational, communication, interpersonal, presentation, conflict resolution and decision-making skills, including effective and precise communication, both orally and written
- Strong member relations skills to establish rapport with the casino management and understand each of the gaming companies' structure
- Highly motivated and able to manage conflicting member viewpoints and priorities
- Highly competent in presenting facts and ideas in an organized and detailed manner
- Able to manage several different functions concurrently
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, traveling in a car, working on a computer and maintaining a presence at the Capitol
- Must be able to drive and hold a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, without risk to the association
- This position works remote, however, regular presence at the state capitol, IGA meetings/events is required to successfully meet job expectations
