POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Programmer will be responsible for programming commercial factory machines (routers, vertical milling, folding machines, decoiler, slitter, shear) that turn raw metals into usable components. This position will read blueprints and CAD files to understand the dimensions of the given component specification in order to properly create and modify CNC programs and setup machines to run new or existing programs. This position will also be responsible for evaluating and improving existing programming and machining/fabricating processes.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Create and modify CNC programs. Read electronic technical drawings (CAD) and set up new or to modify existing CNC machine programs to meet part specifications.
  • Responsible for machine setup, including (CNC), routing, and machining. Setup tools and fixturing for new or existing programs.
  • Purchase tooling/tools. Create and submit purchase requests for new cutting and holding tools and fixtures.
  • Provide machine maintenance support, including software. Provide assistance to maintenance technicians for troubleshooting machine downtime.
  • Evaluate and improve programming and equipment efficiencies.
  • Validation of first article CNC manufactured parts.
  • In charge of some prototype parts and project management.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma required. Technical trade education or associates degree is preferred.
  • 3+ years of related experience and or training is required, or a combination of education and experience.

Skills, Abilities, & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of programming CNC machines, including machining, and routing.

  • Knowledge/understanding of CNC tooling.

  • Understanding of feeds, speeds and cutting dynamics.

  • Competency of the tools of the machining trade. Calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc..

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Knowledge of MasterCAM and G-Code.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook.


  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machines and programs efficiently.

Travel

  • Occasional travel may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position is subject to Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of force greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Visual Acuity

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
