Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.

The Role

We have an opportunity for a Vice President to support Thornton Tomasetti’s Climate Action. The focus area for this position will be on the electrification of the energy supply and demand as well as on the decarbonization-enabling technology such as advanced power distribution, microgrids, grid isolation, distributed energy, energy storage, and fuel cells. The Electrical Engineer will contribute to researching the decarbonization and energy resilience pathways for multiple industries and applications and developing conceptual designs for different solutions and their key components.

This position is part of a wider decarbonization plan and requires close collaboration with the leaders of all other decarbonization elements, including carbon capture and storage, energy storage, nuclear energy, renewables, and hydrogen. As part of this leadership role, the position is expected to take part in business development efforts to expand the scope of services Thornton Tomasetti can offer to our unique clients.

Requirements

  • Degree in Power/Electrical Engineering. An advanced degree (MEng, MSc, or PhD) is preferred but not required.
  • 10+ years' experience in Power/Electrical Engineering (PE license preferred) with a focus on energy systems, power generation, and distribution. An in-depth understanding of utility/grid integration challenges and opportunities for new energy and electrical systems would be a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and develop a detailed understanding of adjacent areas without structured training; ability to apply these new skills to develop first-of-a-kind solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals resulting in revenue growth for a multi-disciplinary team.
