Alkami is hiring a Manager of Software Engineering, a cross-functional and autonomous position involved in coordinating tasks between various teams and departments (Engineering, QA, SRE, Release Management, Product, Architecture, Scrum Master) to ensure the high-quality delivery of software. This person should have a strong technical aptitude, a background in software development, strong problem-solving skills, and function as the “grease” to keep a complex system with a host of moving parts operating smoothly.
The Manager coaches and mentors software engineers to achieve personal and professional growth. They cultivate a collaborative, engaging, fast-paced, and result-oriented environment. This person is hands-on and engaged with their teams and responsible for the evaluation of individual and team performance metrics to maximize team efficiency. They can drive technical discussion/triage/research and help determine root cause analysis.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams while constantly setting and communicating team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.
- Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals.
- Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
- Develop the mid-term technical vision and roadmap within the scope of your team(s).
- Evolve the technical roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
- Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
- Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Constantly review infrastructure metrics, SLA’s, quality metrics to ensure the right technical investments in the platform and its capabilities to meet current and future goals while optimizing costs.
- Work with Product Management to collaborate through creative brainstorming sessions and assist in writing requirements for technical debt.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in a technology leadership role, with a proven track record of building and leading a high-performing team.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering with hands-on coding.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in FinTech, BankTech, or the Banking industry is required.
- Strong background in object-oriented programming such as .NET and JAVA.
- Strong experience building with an event-driven paradigm with at least 3 years experience working with streaming architectures.
- Strong experience working with eventing technologies such as SQS, SNS, Kafka, etc., in the cloud.
- Strong experience with Databases such as Postgres Aurora, DynamoDB, etc., with a passion for high-performance and high-throughput design.
- At least 3 years experience in building scalable systems that are operationally efficient in cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Strong experience working with messaging technologies, e.g., SNS, APN, FCM, Mailgun, etc., with a platform-oriented mindset.
- Demonstrated improved growth and leadership of successful teams over time.
