About the Department
University Research Administration (URA) reviews and provides institutional endorsement for all proposals to federal and other external sponsors, ensuring compliance with University policies and sponsor terms. The URA Post-Award Research Administration Services (RAS) Team offers dedicated support for faculty members' funded research portfolios.

Job Summary
The Post-Award Senior Grant Specialist is responsible for overseeing day-to-day sponsored program activities for an assigned portfolio of faculty researchers, primarily involving financial management of their sponsored research funding. This role includes mentoring team members and independently handling complex portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to ensure consistency and equitable workloads.
  • Contribute to team efforts, assisting colleagues to ensure timely service.
  • Develop training materials and mentor staff.
  • Perform duties related to financial management, including expenditure and budget reviews.
  • Establish account management expectations and prepare reports.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to manage sponsored project portfolios.
  • Participate in risk analysis sessions and coordinate project timelines.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory policies.
  • Assist with grant proposal preparation as needed.
  • Review sponsor guidelines and assist with grant and contract activity.
  • Perform other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.

Work Experience: 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a business or liberal arts field.
  • Five years of experience in sponsored research administration.
  • Knowledge of Federal Circulars applicable to universities.
  • Experience with University of Chicago systems and advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.

Working Conditions

  • Interact with faculty and administrative staff.
  • Sit for extended periods and use computers extensively.
  • Occasional travel to various on-campus locations.
