This is a role that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach to solving problems and patient challenges. SUMMARY : Provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with organizational policies and procedures to support patients, Registered Nurses, and Providers. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists healthcare professionals with examination and obtaining health histories of patients including, but not limited to verifying the patient's identity; current medications/prescriptions used by patient and obtaining vital signs.
  • Administers vaccines and medications as ordered by Providers.
  • Telephones prescriptions to the pharmacy as directed by providers.
  • Performs various administrative duties, such as answering telephones, greeting patients, pulling charts, and updating patient information in the electronic medical records system.
  • Checks and maintains the inventory of supplies and equipment in exam rooms using the department checklist, replenishing items as needed.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of waiting rooms, exam rooms, procedure rooms, and isolation rooms by following cleaning and disinfecting procedures in conjunction with the Environmental Services department.
  • Contacts the laboratory team for basic laboratory tests on the premises ordered by providers; disposes of contaminated supplies appropriately.
  • Promotes patient/family understanding of the educational content and their involvement in the plan of care, and documents patient care in the patient record.
  • Monitors vital signs of infusion patients and reports abnormal findings to the Registered Nurse and/or Provider.
  • Assists in maintaining vaccine inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Proof of high school diploma or GED.
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Healthcare experience. Healthcare professionals that are not certified or licensed in the Medical Assisting field will require additional training and supervision during the orientation process.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds and demonstrate competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with age specific competencies required in a pediatric setting.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation and sterile procedures, techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Daily clinic preparation process; preparing charts and reviewing scheduling. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Frequently alternates between walking, standing, sitting and reaching throughout the day.
  • Occasionally stoops, bends, and crouches while assisting patients.
  • Frequently uses fine hand coordination and manual dexterity to perform data entry on the computer.
  • Occasionally lifts/pushes/pulls up to 20 lbs. May need to assist patients in a wheelchair and safely support the full weight of a patient when necessary.

POST OFFER: QuantiFeron Tuberculosis blood test, pre-employment physical, pre-employment drug screen.
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.

Compensation range commensurate with experience. Candidates will receive the compensation range during the initial interview.
Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
