UCI Health dermatologists are leaders in the treatment of all conditions and diseases affecting the skin, nails and hair. We provide expert care to adults and children for everything from acne and alopecia to psoriasis and skin cancer.
Our board-certified dermatologists routinely see Orange County's most challenging and complex cases. Because we are part of Orange County's only university health system, our specialists also are rigorously researching new approaches to dermatology, including clinical trials to test new therapies. Our experts also provide laser treatments for skin conditions that include vascular birthmarks and malformations, acne, rosacea, psoriasis and skin cancers at the world-renowned Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic and UCI Health Dermatology Center in Irvine.
We offer expert surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic treatments, including skin augmentation, photo-rejuvenation, chemical peels, cryolipolysis and hair restoration and we are the only practice in Orange County to offer the complete range of photo therapy services under the supervision of board-certified dermatologists. This highly effective and convenient treatment option is available for a broad range of skin conditions.

Your Role on the Team

The Medical Assistant assists physicians with patient examination, procedures, and treatment. This position supports high volume for specialty providers. Responsible for patient histories; routine lab procedures; and preparation of specimens for transport to the lab. Accurately and efficiently completes EMR intake. Follows up on test orders and reports results to the physician and patient; provides and maintains patient education materials; maintains medical equipment; inventories clinical and drug supplies. Complies with assigned collateral duties. Will obtain clinical, financial, and demographic information. Sends outside reports/records/consents for scanning. Will handle patient scheduling, registration and preparation, clinical coordination including clinic and surgeries, medication administration, performance of simple procedures, specimen collection, patient discharge, patient health care needs, following Universal Precautions, participates in the patient flow process. Responsible for answering all EPIC messages, prescription refills, patient appeals, heavy phone volume and performs other duties as assigned.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to interact on sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups at different levels including hospital, university, and community, and patients; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High level of customer service at all times.
  • Organizational skills to establish workload priorities to facilitate multiple functions and deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Experience with HIPAA and knowledge of Join commission standards including Federal and State regulations.
  • Must be a team player, able to work independently and collaboratively with all the clinic staff.
  • Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program.
  • Basic Life Support Certified through the American Heart Association.
  • Demonstrated some experience working as a medical assistant in an outpatient / ambulatory setting.


Preferred:

  • Bilingual speaker.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends or holidays.
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
  • CPT-I phlebotomy certification.
