Horstman is looking for driven, technical engineers, interested in helping Horstman stay at the forefront of suspension technology for the next 100 years.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:Perform design engineering on vehicle suspension components and systems for defense and commercial product lines. The Design Engineer role is a Non-supervisory role preparing; CAD solid models and 2D drawings, calculations for component tolerances and fits, and overall preparation of technical data packages. Design new, modified, and/or improved components and kits for applications in accordance with engineering standards & project scope of work. Position will require working closely with manufacturing and component suppliers to optimize designs for wide variety of applications.PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Create and maintain 3D models using SolidworksCreate and maintain manufacturing drawings using SolidworksImplement GD&T when necessary on manufacturing drawingsPerform GD&T stack up calculationsManage configuration control of TDP with PDM SoftwarePerform feasibility studies on potential projects with multiple suspension configurations.Select appropriate material based off service requirementsDesign manufacturing fixtures, test stands, and specialized tooling.Structure and enter Bills of Materials into ERP systemManage file structure within Solidworks PDMFollow workflow process to release parts and drawings to manufacturingProcess ECR's and associated documentationWork closely with customer, including occasionally presenting to the customerWork closely with Project Engineering staff to develop new designsCommunicate complex concepts, both written and verbal to co-workers, customers, and suppliers.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other related degreeMinimum 3 years of experience in a design/manufacturing environmentExcellent computer skills including but not limited to all MS Office productsMust be energetic, highly motivated, self-starting individual, with a strong capability for self-learning and driven to complete projects.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSHave a design experience working with the following materials: Stainless Steels, Tool Steels, Titanium, Aluminums)Design experience with hydraulic power units and associated tubing, hose, and fitting styles associated with hydraulic systems.Past work experience in the defense industrySignificant suspension design experience with on/off-road wheeled & tracked vehiclesPosition RequirementsWORKING CONDITIONS:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job.
