Position: Machinist
Location: Decatur, AL

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machining Operations: Operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to fabricate metal parts. Adjust machine settings for optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Precision Measurement: Use micrometers, calipers, and gauges to measure and verify dimensions of machined parts. Ensure all parts meet exact tolerances and specifications.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to understand machining requirements. Translate these requirements into precise machine operations.
  • Tooling Setup: Select and install the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and materials for each job. Perform routine tool maintenance and replacements as needed.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect finished parts for defects or deviations from specifications. Conduct tests to ensure parts meet quality standards and make necessary adjustments to processes.
  • Programming and Operation: Operate CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, including programming and troubleshooting as required. Optimize machining processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Material Handling: Safely handle and transport raw materials and finished products within the workshop. Ensure proper storage of materials to prevent damage.
  • Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance on machines and tools to ensure they remain in good working order. Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate repairs when necessary.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of machining processes, measurements, and quality checks. Report any issues or discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, production managers, and other machinists to meet project deadlines and specifications. Communicate effectively to resolve any issues during the machining process.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience as a machinist with proficiency in using micrometers and other precision measuring tools.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics.
  • Experience with CNC machines and manual machining tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in a machining environment.
  • Must be based in or willing to commute to (City, State).

Compensation:

  • Pay Rate: based upon experience.
