Digital Marketing Director

DEPARTMENT: Advertising

REPORTS TO: Regional President and Adams Vice President of Digital

STATUS & GRADE: Exempt

SUPERVISES: Yes

EMPLOYMENT: Regular Full Time

REG. HOURS: 40 per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for achieving digital revenue goals. This includes the development of their own book of business as well as mentoring of the local advertising sales team, including four legged sales calls for APG of Northern Wisconsin.

Workload split as follows: 50% developing and providing leadership to the Advertising Department in a manner consistent with sound management practices to ensure the attainment of digital performance goals. Directly manages sales representatives in regard to any and all digital products of the Rockford Register Star. Leads the department in order to achieve bottom line growth of digital revenue through any means necessary including direct sales, assisted sales, and managing third party sales. Provide training for all MMAEs to develop a level of competency commensurate for goal achievement.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

College degree in Advertising, Marketing or related field. Must have a minimum of five years of demonstrated success in a previous digital marketing/media sales position and prior management/supervisory experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Analytics: This position will also measure the effectiveness of various marketing campaigns. Google Tag Manager and Analytics understanding are necessary components.
  • Shared Responsibilities: This role requires a minimum 50% of their time in the field prospecting and harvesting their own new digital business, about 40% of their time in the field with MMAEs (training staff and creating optimal solutions for area businesses), and the balance of time ensuring accounts are receiving superior customer service (i.e., campaign metrics, check-ins, etc.).
  • APG Digital Team: This position will be part of the APG Digital Management Team, requiring regular participation in group calls and projects.
  • Positive leadership qualities and coaching mentality.
  • Self-motivated, possess effective communication skills, creativity, strategic thinking.
  • Good oral and written comprehension, deductive reasoning, and excellent managerial skills.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & G-Suite required. The ability to learn other relevant software programs and teach direct reports is paramount.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to achieve high performance goals and lead sales representatives in that same pursuit in a complex, demanding environment.
  • Must be very well organized, self-directed, and goal-oriented, with strong time leadership skills.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with customers, colleagues, and staff.
  • Must have strong customer service orientation, leadership skills, and strength in sales and negotiation processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides all MMAEs with the training and support necessary to achieve high performance goals. Creates new revenue opportunities, closes sales, and maintains current accounts.
  2. Partners to actively recruit, develop, and maintain a highly qualified and motivated sales force. Provides expertise and assistance on sales calls for any high potential digital meetings with reps.
  3. Establishes sales goals and other optimal standards of performance.
  4. Leads practice in sales principles, techniques, and skills to maximize sales effort.
  5. Creates sales tools and assists in presentations.
  6. Establishes, evaluates, maintains, and monitors competitive pricing and products that best meet the needs of customers and that help our customers grow and prosper.
  7. Cultivates and maintains relationships with customers.
  8. Accurately forecasts, budgets, and reports revenue and efficiencies to management.
  9. Works well with other departments to ensure the efficient coordination of workflow.
  10. Performs all other duties as assigned. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, co-workers, and managers. Develops processes that make the digital side of the ad department more efficient and effective.

JOB DESCRIPTION: DIGITAL MARKETING DIRECTOR

This position is responsible for achieving digital revenue sales goals and the revenue development and mentoring of the local advertising sales team for APG of Northern Wisconsin. This position will manage digital marketing solutions and services for the region, as well as daily harvesting of new business in the region. The digital leader will coach, model, and mentor Multimedia Account Executives in each market to maximize revenue opportunities related to digital services, including Website Display, Programmatic, SEM/PPC, Targeted Email, Video, CTV-OTT, Social Media, E-Newsletters, and other emerging solutions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong understanding of current digital marketing tools and strategies.
  • Lead integrated digital marketing campaigns from concept to execution.
  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies while staying current with emerging opportunities in the digital advertising space.
  • Have a strong work ethic and appropriate understanding of Google Suites data collection.
  • Have a flexible primary office location based on current market presence.

Job Functions:

Ad Strategy: This position will manage digital advertising strategy, both from a business, sales, and technical perspective. This role will assist with the budget development and projections for advertising. A great digital leader will come with a plan of action to grow digital revenue and to motivate staff in that direction.

Reports to: This position has a shared reporting line to the Regional President & VP-Digital.
