DEPARTMENT: Transportation
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
JOB SUMMARY:
To transport students for School District 55 promptly, efficiently, and safely so that the department's maximum positive impact on the district may be realized.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives safely, obeying all traffic laws and following all regulations and suggestions for same as outlined during driver training.
  2. Maintains bus equipment and reports any damage to the bus to the Transportation Office and Bus Maintenance Shop. Damage reports must be submitted promptly.
  3. Ensures proper conduct of passengers and reports incidents of inappropriate conduct on the bus or at the bus stops to the student's principal.
  4. Arrives promptly at all stops.
  5. Makes sure passengers are picked up and delivered only in accordance with the written route description.
  6. Ensures bus is always parked in a safe location, keys are out of the ignition and no students are left on the bus.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and meet all special physical, mental, and moral requirements established by the State.
  2. Must meet all the requirements for the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for transporting students.
  3. Must have no more than 4 current points on driving record (DMV).
  4. In the previous 12 months, there can be no more than 4 points assessed against driver's
License, and license must not have been suspended for a moving violation.
  1. Must have a physical examination recorded on a state-approved form within 12 months prior to initial certification and every two years at re-certification.
  2. Must agree to tests designed to identify illegal drug and alcohol use. One of these tests is given prior for initial certification; others are unannounced and random.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
One hundred eighty (180) days per year.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Usual working conditions. Light work involving a minimum of physical effort and normal attention.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools, And is continuously driving on the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100° and below 32° and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
