Description
De La Pena Eye Clinic is hiring a full-time Optical Dispenser to join our team in Long Beach, CA.
About the Opportunity
Typically Monday - Friday 9 AM - 6 PM and some Saturdays.
Please note the pay range for this position is $18 - $20/hr .
Must be willing to travel to various De La Pena locations in the area.
This position is responsible for all dispensing and optical activities, including all technical procedures of fitting, necessary bench work, and allied optical procedures. Included also will be any necessary clerical functions required to satisfy patient needs which may include acting as a liaison between pertinent departments.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Assists patient with selection of eyewear, making necessary facial measurements and adjustments to properly fit glasses.
- Interviews patient to determine visual needs.
- Interprets refractionist's prescription.
- Instructs and counsels patient on proper methods of eyeglass care.
- Enters prescription and sales information into computerized system and performs all other clerical functions required to satisfy patient needs.
- Verifies Optical Benefit coverage.
- Dispenses and adjusts optical product.
- Inspects final product for accuracy in accordance with prescription requirements.
- Reconciles patient's concerns to their satisfaction.
- Performs all other dispensing functions consistent with accepted professional practice as authorized by the California Board of Medical Examiners and organizational policies.
- Conducts daily inventory of frames and accessories as required.
- Performs necessary shop work, including cutting, edging, dyeing, and mounting of lenses.
- Repairs frames as required.
- Completes all required forms.
- Maintains written and verbal communication with lab as required.
- Performs customer service and floor coordinating duties.
- Performs other related duties as necessary.
About the Candidate
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years’ experience as a dispensing optician strongly preferred.
- Graduate of an opticianry/optician training program or on-the-job training.
- ABO Certified and licensed preferred.
- Previous experience with Eligibility and Authorizations preferred.
- Must be able to work Saturdays.
- Good manual dexterity and ability to operate a variety of medical equipment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer skills for use with electronic medical records and inventory system.
- Ability to work with co-workers in a team setting.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Strong aptitude for mathematics.
- Patient with attention to detail.
