Inside the Role

We design, operate, and control the Accounting and Financial Reporting process at DTNA. As a valuable business partner, we ensure transparency and provide accounting guidance and services. As a quality gatekeeper, we drive compliance with accounting and financial reporting rules within DTNA for Trucks North America segment.

This is a key position within Financial Reporting responsible for month-end close activities associated with interfacing financial data from SAP into Management Information Factory (MIF), processing of group eliminations, and producing the consolidated financial statements accurately and timely. Perform financial statement variance analyses to ensure that transactions are recorded in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Communicate financial results, along with issues and exceptions to accounting management and the external audit team. Oversee financial reporting tasks on a monthly/quarterly basis including significant adjustments reporting, preparing, and reviewing journal entries, reviewing account reconciliations, and internal controls. Conduct technical accounting research, including assessing the impact of Daimler Truck IFRS manual updates. Analysis of changes in DTNA legal entities capital structure and assisting with dividend payments. Lead the various Next Gen continuous improvement projects related to financial reporting. Work independently and cross-functionally within the areas of Finance, Controlling, Operations, Tax, and other areas to research and resolve accounting and reporting issues and to ensure proper accounting standards and best practices are applied.

Financial reporting tasks

  • Execution and oversight of financial reporting tasks and month-end close activities associated with MIF.
  • Establish, coordinate, and monitor financial reporting procedures (closing, consolidation, major EBIT adjustments, etc.) and train appropriate internal and outsourced personnel to perform relevant financial reporting tasks timely and accurately.
  • Reporting, analytical review of financial information, and supervision/review of operation of relevant systems, transactions, processes, and controls to ensure the proper recording of and the accurate and timely filing of internal financial statements to Daimler.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, provide support to and review all existing outsourced transactions and processes and manage and validate all system interfaces feeding SAP cbFC and/or MIF.
  • Operationally supervise MIF reporting personnel in daily activities, including training appropriate personnel to perform financial reporting tasks timely and accurately, and provide advice, feedback, and coaching.
  • Research relevant accounting issues around contemplated dividends, capital changes, legal entity structure changes and propose and document appropriate accounting treatment.

General ledger accounting and financial analyses

  • Review of general ledger account reconciliations and financial analyses to ensure that financial transactions are recorded in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Monthly review of reconciliations to ensure accuracy and quality is maintained for financial reporting related transactions and balances.
  • Apply relevant guidance and perform necessary analysis for changes to accounting standards.
  • Perform analysis and review of all significant changes to balance sheet and P&L MIF positions.
  • Prepare the required MIF footnote and SNR disclosures for quarterly, hard close, and year-end reporting.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain processes which facilitate analytical review of financial information reported in MIF to ensure that it meets Daimler requirements and standards.
  • Provide guidance for special reporting requirements in MIF including Tax, Pensions, and footnote disclosures.
  • Support annual DTNA group dividend planning and capital structure review process.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline or automate MIF related data inputs and reports.
  • Prepare documentation of new and/or existing processes and policies, as necessary.
  • Manage ad-hoc assignments and projects as they arise.

Business partnering

  • Research various accounting issues and propose appropriate accounting treatment, resolve accounting/reporting issues to ensure proper accounting standards and best practices are applied.
  • Work closely with Finance personnel to identify process improvements, internal control weaknesses, and various accounting issues. Work to effect organizational or system change to achieve productivity, efficiency, and control improvements.

Methods, processes and systems

  • Research relevant new accounting issues and propose appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Draft white papers supporting proper IFRS accounting treatment related to technical accounting issues and matters.
  • Monitor and analyze current and developing legislation and regulations.
  • Coordinate and ensure on an ongoing basis the completion of internal projects related to sound accounting processes and compliance with all IAS and IFRS accounting standards.
  • Prepare documentation of new and/or existing processes and policies.
  • Work with the business partners to identify process and/or system improvements.
  • Manage and validate all system interfaces feeding the MIF financial reporting package. Ensure all MIF or SAP changes are properly captured by the interface. Ensure proper system utilization by accounting and maintenance of MIF user profiles.

Reporting/communication of financial results and coordination of financial (regulatory) filings

  • Preparation and communication of financial results and key performance metrics (KPI's) to management.
  • Communicate issues and exceptions to accounting management and the external audit team.
  • Provide quarterly external audit support, including preparing and delivering analytics package and perform year-end accounting and reporting.

Internal control over financial reporting

  • Perform evaluation of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting and ensure that the necessary controls are documented and tested in accordance with the Company's internal requirements.
  • Work with the business partners to identify internal control issues.

Cross-functional project work

  • Exhibit leadership in working cross functionally with business units to implement new business processes due to changes in business or accounting requirements.
  • Routinely monitor, track and report progress of implementation on complex projects.
  • Drive organizational and/or system changes to meet Continuous Improvement objectives.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field required.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
  • Current knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP.
  • Ability to lead team or department projects or work streams within broader projects.
  • Act as an advisor to management and key external stakeholders on job field related projects.

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (IIA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred.
  • CPA firm experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills related to Power BI and/or other data analytic tools.
