Job Title: Academic Advisor
Reports to: Campus Administration
Location: BFCS - Queen Creek High School
Position Type: Full-Time, 12 Months
Job Description: Benjamin Franklin Charter School is looking for Academic Advisors to join our High School Team!
Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision of the Campus Administration, and in conjunction with other members of the Advising team, the 7-12 Academic Advisor provides a comprehensive advising program for students.
  • Consult with the Principal, teachers, parents, and other staff members as needed to enhance their effectiveness in helping students.
  • Help students understand their abilities, aptitudes, and interests in light of the opportunities and demands that they currently experience or may experience in the future, including student assessment and career development.
  • Coordinate academic and post high school planning for all students, making use of District provided resources including the Naviance platform.
  • Develop relationships with colleges that align with the mission of BFHS and its values; arranging college visits, talks for students on our campus etc.
  • Communicate with families all aspects of the college application process, guiding students/families through the financial aid/scholarship search process, and coordinating all school based application requirements - transcripts, letter of recommendation etc.
  • Assist teachers with parental communication, providing guidance as needed during parent teachers conferences, and facilitating access to various academic supports on campus.
  • Maintain credit checks, ensuring that all students are on track for graduation.
  • Coordinate registration for classes and aid students with schedule change requests.
  • Model positive character virtues and habits, and assist students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes.
  • Promote a Classical learning environment while adhering to all Benjamin Franklin policies and procedures, and assists in supporting high academic standards and expectations to develop responsibility and accountability in both staff and students.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's Degree
  • School Counseling Certification/License
  • Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
