THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing essential materials for the business's operations, including researching raw materials suppliers and comparing costs, negotiating purchase agreements and developing inventory controls to identify demand for new materials to support two lines of business: Advance Capabilities and Power & data Systems. They will collaborate with the Senior Planner to ensure that the companies operational needs met maintaining a continuity of supply. This role will also be responsible for managing the buyer.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Work closely with the Master Planner and inventory team to maintain optimal stock levels and prevent shortages or overstock situations.

  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure advantageous terms and agreements.

  • Work closely with Product Managers and R&D Managers on new products.

  • Utilize the ERP system to coordinate and collaborate with the Master Planner on all inventory needs

  • Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure purchased commodities meet the required standards and specifications as well as generating and processing Return Material Authorization's (RMA's) and participate in corrective action requests.

  • Proactively identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions

  • Implement cost-effective purchasing strategies without compromising quality and reliability.

  • Continuously seek opportunities to reduce procurement costs

  • Support direction and strategies regarding supplier demand forecasting, supplier capacity planning, supply base inventory management, supplier replenishment, and procurement transactions

  • Source and develop good supplier partnerships for materials being purchased, including inventory stocking programs.

  • Manage supplier on-time delivery (OTD) performance, maintain system data integrity, and measure performance on related key indicators.

  • Provide a weekly purchase order status report to management

  • Participate in purchasing and freight cost reduction initiatives that support company goals

  • Reconcile discrepancies between supplier shipments & contractual obligations

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, company policies, and ethical standards in all procurement activities

  • Continually look for & suggest new methods for developing & making the system more effective

  • Perform other duties as required

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • 8-9 years' experience in purchasing

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as supply chain management or business, economics

  • Background in electro-mechanical purchasing a plus

  • Experience in raw material purchasing preferred

  • Position requires someone who is self-motivated and proactive

  • Experienced in a manufacturing environment and use in ERP operating software

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written

  • Must be detailed oriented, quick learner, and a team player

  • Proficiency with MS Windows, Microsoft Excel required

  • Experienced with lean initiatives

  • Familiarity with ISO

  • Military experience is a plus

Work environment (include physical requirements)

  • Office environment within a manufacturing facility

  • Must have the ability to obtain required documents to travel internationally

  • Weekly travel between Marlborough and Portsmouth locations is required
