Position Overview:

This position is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, services and supplies from suppliers. The Buyer assists departments in the evaluation of goods and services as needed; ensures that internal customers' expectations and requirements are met; and resolves conflicts concerning materials or services. The Buyer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within procurement field and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Attention to detail is critical.
Essential Duties:

  • Follow corporate procurement guidelines and policies.
  • Extrapolates the business/operational requirements from internal parties and interprets into a value engineered solution/strategy that fulfills these requirements with minimal oversight.
  • Partners with business, understands SOW requirements, and develops and drives Procurement timelines meeting all applicable deadlines.
  • Simultaneously manages multiple projects and ensures deliverables.
  • Confers with suppliers to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Evaluates supplier quotes against market rates to determine most desirable suppliers.
  • Negotiates commercial and legal terms in partnership with Legal/Business to facilitate contracts with suppliers.
  • Consistent communication with outside suppliers and internal parties.
  • Reviews invoices for accuracy by matching to Purchase Orders.
  • Provide technical and expert counsel to internal customers on topics such as purchasing policies, purchasing processes, Supplier sourcing, and SAP requirements for purchasing.
  • Assists Purchasing Supervisor in improving purchasing operations through processes, communications, and performance, utilizing industry best practices.
  • Review suppliers for compliance with company's quality criteria.
  • Travel to the mine site in Mountain Pass, CA on an as needed basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience with SAP highly desirable.
  • Experience at an industrial, mining, or chemical processing facility highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years related experience required.

  • Accounting and mathematical skills to conduct value analysis, discrepancy resolution, and the review of bids and pricing proposals.
  • The ability to make sound decisions to successfully integrate objective, opportunities, and resources.
  • Time management skills are necessary to successfully manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and team building skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to acquire detailed knowledge of specific suppliers, pricing, products, product lines, and packing & shipping standards.
  • Ability to liaison with other cross functional employees and work with multiple processes and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and offer solutions to problems or involve the necessary people to ensure the problem is properly resolved.
