Schedule: Monday to Friday - Monday to Thursday from 1:45pm to 8:00pm and Friday from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. Total Hours will be under 29. 5 Hours Per Week.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, or Director, the Lead Youth Development Professional's role is to help strengthen Youth Development Professionals, in the area of programming and mentoring by helping to create the optimum club experience at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns (BGCNT).
Description of Duties (Essential Job Responsibilities):
  • Create an optimum club experience by helping youth achieve their expected goals; develop positive self-identity, core competencies, giving youth a sense of community and civic involvement, increasing their awareness of good health and well-being, and instilling a good moral compass in order to build positive relationships.
  • Engage youth in the core program areas of C.H.A.S.E. (Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, the Arts, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, and Education & Career Development),
  • Support the Five Key Elements which includes; a safe, positive environment; fun; supportive relationships; opportunities and expectations; and recognition.
  • Daily track attendance of Club members during each activity.
  • Assist members with academic assignments in individual and group settings.
  • Facilitate programs mandated by BGCNT and give a comprehensive lesson on the assigned topic.
  • Lead Club members in safe and age-appropriate physical activities and interactive play.
  • Attempts to solve conflict should be done in a manner which will result in a positive outcome for the youth.
  • At all times, supervise members during all activities in and outside of the building.
  • Escort members in and out of the premises, to lavatories, and to activities.
  • Assist other staff with serving meals and snacks. At meal time, sit and talk with members while reinforcing proper etiquette.
  • Assist in keeping the clubhouse clean at all times.
  • Be present at scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Assist with the training, and mentoring of new Youth Development Professionals.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents of club members, informing them of issues or positive progress.
  • Monitor inventory of food, games, and daily supplies to ensure every member has access to necessary resources each day.
  • Transport members in a company vehicle on field trips as needed and with special permission by the Director of Facilities. Completion of driving requirements required.
  • Ensure all members have been picked up from the program, which may include making phone calls to locate guardianship.
  • Support and communicate with supervisor and co-workers in a cooperative manner.
  • Responsible for sharing in the housekeeping of the club to ensure staff and member safety.
  • Model and practice sensitivity, fair treatment and acceptance of diversity with members, co-workers and in all other interpersonal interactions.
  • Demonstrate initiative in learning about and implementing skills related to diversity.
  • Ensure all activities are executed in a safe manner for all participants.
  • Aware of the location of members at all times.
  • Ensure the building is properly secured at all times.
  • Perform daily safety checks at the beginning and end of the shift to identify potential and existing hazards.
  • Report all accidents/incidents immediately and assist with necessary documentation.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of BGCNT.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one-year experience working with youth required, preferably in an organized program setting. Experience must include giving guidance of life skills.
  • Minimum of one-year experience working at BGCNT.
  • Valid NYS driver's license for one year and an acceptable driving record, as determined by BGCNT.
  • Minimum of 30 hours completed in the School Age Child Care training requirements
  • Completed Health and Safety training
  • Written letter of recommendation from immediate supervisor
  • No disciplinary write ups within six months of applying for the position.
  • Completion of School of Youth Development (foundation and Advance) through BGCA
  • School of Youth Development's Legacy level completed within first year of appointment
  • Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic personality.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid Certified within six months of hire.
  • Proficient in BGCNT's current data collection system.
Work Environment:
The employee will work primarily indoors with outdoor activities when weather permits. This is a fast paced, active child focused environment that requires constant interaction and attention to the needs of the children.
