Overview

This position offers you the opportunity to make a difference at one of the world's top health and wellness companies as you assume the role of in-house expert in leading our Skin and Sun and Lip care technology internal execution. The Principal Scientist will identify and pursue new research/technology opportunities and provide technical support for the Marketing and Customers from brief to product execution. Focus will be on Skincare, Sun care, and Lip care technologies, as well as others. The person should have a minimum of a science-related degree, direct supervisory experience, and/or more than 7 years of industry experience in the FMCG industry, ideally in Beauty, Bath and body, and skin care.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting technology surveys of competitive products to determine market and technology trends. Support with performing competitive physical, chemical, and aesthetic tests.
  • Conduct literature surveys to provide sound judgment on efficacy and safety as well as being able to rank the quality of research.
  • Assessing potential regulatory, patent, and safety issues relating to existing and new formulas.
  • Conducting performance tests to demonstrate the superiority of our key products in-house as well as in independent laboratories as needed.
  • Perform appropriate tests to support formulas and claims; select and modify appropriate procedures for laboratory evaluation of product samples, perform competitive tests, etc.
  • Leading necessary tests like potency, stability, and consumer tests in-house and/or outside testing.
  • Continuously improving existing products for cost reduction as well as improving product quality for our consumers.
  • Understanding and complying with all relevant good laboratory practices, and maintaining a safe, orderly workplace and accurate, up-to-date records of laboratory work.
  • Cooperating with R&D, International, Operations, and Marketing co-workers in achieving their goals.
  • Independently plan, support, and make good technical judgments to fulfill project plans and goals.
  • Communicating research plans and progress to R&D supervision, coworkers, and business counterparts.
  • Developing strategies for gaining ownership of intellectual property and circumventing competitive patents; independently providing support for new patent applications.
  • Proposing and demonstrating innovative ideas to R&D management based on external and internal capabilities.
  • Continuously updating technical proficiency by studying new science, technical advancements, competitive products, new raw materials, and regulations affecting US and other markets.
  • Independently prepare documentation on research findings.
  • Maintain seamless work relationships with R&D associates and associates from other departments and work efficiently in partnership with turnkey suppliers.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in a chemistry discipline.
  • Five+ years of relevant job experience in a science-related field and/or supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in performing in vitro, in vivo, and/or clinical assessments.
  • Understand and proficient in toxicology and safety tests.
  • Capable of quickly gaining proficiency in new methods, techniques, and technologies.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer applications.
  • Proficient in experimental designs.
  • Familiar with global regulations, good manufacturing and laboratory practices, product registration, and labeling compliance.
  • Ability to write reports, patents, and SOPs, etc. and to prepare documentation on research findings.
  • Ability to develop and utilize laboratory test methods and product use tests to support regulatory and/or product claims.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
