This Associate Director – Federal Income Tax Compliance position offers opportunities to build your career, while growing your leadership and interpersonal skills.
The Associate Director – Federal Income Tax Compliance will report to the Senior Director – Federal Income Tax Operations. This role will primarily be responsible for Verizon’s consolidated federal income tax return and will have the ability to drive change through the use of process automation and digital tools.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall federal income tax compliance function for a company with over $130B of revenue and a complex structure.
- Ownership of the federal tax return preparation process in OneSource Income Tax.
- Overseeing the preparation of all federal income tax, insurance tax and foundation tax returns, including estimates and extensions.
- Review of all of Verizon’s federal tax filings, including its consolidated federal income tax return.
- Managing timeline and delivery of a comprehensive executive review package.
- Coordinating with other Associate Directors and Senior Directors as necessary to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of all federal tax processes.
- Managing federal tax liability and ensure that Verizon pays the correct amount of tax throughout the year.
- Liaising with the tax planning team to identify and implement tax planning strategies to minimize cash taxes and the effective tax rate.
- Providing support to the federal audit team upon request.
- Providing support for the quarterly and year-end tax provision processes.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with various teams throughout Verizon including, but not limited to, Tax Policy, Treasury and FP&A in order to gain compliance, accounting and reporting efficiencies.
- Streamlining and optimizing tax processes through the use of various digital finance tools, including Alteryx, Qlik and other technologies.
- Manage a team of tax professionals and develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What we’re looking for…
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field or seven or more years of work experience.
- Seven or more years of relevant work experience in the income taxes field.
- Strong working knowledge of federal income taxes.
- Experience with OneSource Income Tax.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals both technically and as future leaders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- A CPA, Masters of Tax or Masters of Accounting.
- Experience with OneSource Tax Provision and OneSource Apportionment.
- Solid data management and automation skills required; experience with Alteryx or Qlik is a significant plus.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with proven ability to work with individuals at all levels in a team environment.
- Ability to independently challenge, when needed, while at the same time being supportive and solution-based.
- An ability to navigate and negotiate through conflicting demands to maintain focus on priority objectives while ensuring key stakeholders’ needs are met.
- Ability to lead groups, build consensus, and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization.
- Strong team leadership, communication, interpersonal and management skills with an executive presence and ability to build relationships with stakeholders in peer/influence models.
- Previous people management experience.
