Pay Rate: Regular Shifts are $21.42/hour, Overnight Shifts will be $23.12

  • Sick Pay – 1 hour for every 30 hours
  • 2 Wellness Days to be taken any time during the year to support employees’ mental wellness

Position Overview:

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of asylum seekers? We are looking for an On-Call Logistics Support Specialist, which means you can work anywhere from 0 hours to 20 hours a week and will be called when support is needed.

Jewish Family Service provides robust immigration legal services in addition to humanitarian and respite shelter for asylum seekers. In partnership with the San Diego Rapid Response Network, JFS continues to provide case management, travel assistance, nutrition services, medical screenings, and financial support for migrant families.

As a Logistics Specialist, you will manage supplies, ensure that basic needs supplies are provided to shelter guests in a timely manner, and safely transport guests to travel hubs/appointments. This position requires an understanding of complex operations and clear communication with staff, volunteers, and guests.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and welcome guests at shelter locations
  • Follow prescribed procedures for safe meal and snack service
  • Serve food items to guests, in accordance with specific instructions
  • Ensure shelter guests have all documents required for program exit and onward travel
  • Safely transport and guide shelter guests to/from partner organizations, shelter locations, off-site appointments, and travel hubs
  • Organize and distribute inventory as appropriate for operational needs
  • Assist with physical inventory of specific shelter items
  • Report supplies/donations needed for the operation to Logistics Support Specialist Lead
  • Interact with guests to support a welcoming environment
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, completing multiple tasks efficiently
  • Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with others
  • Work within the client database
  • Perform administrative duties in support of an assigned area of responsibility
  • Maintain that guests follow all health and safety protocols
  • Maintain a safe and clean space; indoors and outdoors
  • Assist with ensuring guests have sufficient basic needs for their onward travel
  • Support guests with laundry services when needed
  • Work closely with volunteers and provide support on various tasks
  • Complete trainings as required
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment at all shelter locations
  • Assist in implementing infection control protocol as necessary
  • Support at all shelter locations as operationally necessary
  • Participate in required training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Good sense of direction and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan logistics for deliveries, pickups, and distributions
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects
  • Coordinate, organize and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
  • Work independently and effectively resolve concerns
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care
  • Ability to multitask efficiently
  • Good work ethic
  • Communication and customer service skills
  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties specified

Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Russian, and/or other common shelter language preferred
  • CPR/First Aid & AED Certification preferred, but not required

Additional Information Required Upon Hire:

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccine and booster
  • Self-attestation of immunizations against communicable diseases
  • Valid CA Driver’s License

Physical Demands of the Job:

  • Stand, walk and use hands and arms to use a keyboard, handle papers, and reach for the phone
  • Extended work with computer
  • Heavy Work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently
  • Work activities occur inside and outside
  • The worker will be in an environment with possible communicable illnesses
