Located in one of the most diverse areas of California, Elk Grove Unified is an award-winning district known for its commitment to academic excellence and learning for all students in its 68 schools in nine high school regions. It covers 320 square miles within the City of Elk Grove, the City of Sacramento, the City of Rancho Cordova, and the unincorporated area of Sacramento County. EGUSD integrates career-based learning and real-world workplace experiences with rigorous academics to prepare its students for college, career, and life, supporting them with the means to be creative problem solvers, self-aware, self-reliant, and self-disciplined; technically literate; effective communicators and collaborators; and engaged in the community as individuals with integrity.
Job Summary
The present day Prairie School, constructed in 1981, gets its name from the old Prairie School that served the community that grew up around the stage stop called Union House. The road upon which it was located is Franklin Boulevard today, but it was first known as the Monterey Trail, and later as Lower Stockton Road. The school was called East Union for its first four years, but in 1858 it was named Prairie. The school served the farm families of the area until 1914 when it merged with the Franklin district. The name is a reminder of the meadowlands and the vast acres of wildflowers that stretched all the way to the Sacramento River. Perhaps it made the first settlers remember the wide prairies they had crossed to get to California.
At Prairie Elementary our staff is committed to providing the best possible education for each child. We are proud of our students, staff, and their outstanding progress in reading and math. We promote good citizenship, hold high expectations, and maintain a safe, orderly learning environment for all students. A school-wide discipline program has been implemented. Social-emotional learning and character education curriculum is used in every classroom. These programs foster specific expected behaviors for school success. We welcome parent participation. Parents are encouraged to participate in our Parent University nights and at our annual Fall Festival. We look forward to a positive school year with the support of our families and community.
