Controls Engineer - Highland Park, MI - Onsite

We are actively hiring a Controls Engineer to support a large Tier 1 automotive supplier for seating that goes into global heavy truck and bus industries! This role is fully onsite.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and install new PLC-based control systems.

  • Onsite commissioning of electrical and function validation equipment focusing on I/O checkout, system testing, and start-up support.

  • Maintain and modify Human Machine Interface (HMI) displays and graphics via multiple computer systems, e.g., Citec, FactoryTalk, RS Studio 5000.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and develop corrective actions for equipment performance issues.

  • Produce and update documents including work/user instructions, functional specifications, detailed design specifications, electrical and pneumatic schematics, etc.

  • Develop and maintain robotic equipment, e.g., Fanuc, Universal Robots, etc.

  • Deploy and maintain electronic safety systems, e.g., Safety PLCs, Area Scanners, Light curtains, etc.

  • Deploy and maintain error-proofing devices such as Keyence, Cognex, SICK vision systems.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Control Engineer within the automotive manufacturing industry

  • Bachelors Degree within an engineering discipline. (10+ years of direct experience if no degree completed)

  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley RSLogix500 / 5000, Factory Talk View Studio; DeviceNet, EthernetIP

  • Understand and apply ladder logic principles, control for I/O, ability to understand PLC commands and HMI usage.

  • Demonstrated experience in Electrical Control System Design, PLC programming & troubleshooting

  • Demonstrated use of electrical devices (i.e. proximity switches, load cells, LVDT’s, signal conditioners, etc.)

  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, schematic design specification.
