Job Summary:
The Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) is seeking its first staff Director to lead the Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub. The purpose of the AI hub at the Wisconsin School of Business is to serve as the focal point for all AI related activities at the WSB. It serves four primary functions that relate to AI: support research, nurture industry connections, host industry and academic events, and support AI related communications at the WSB. In this leadership role, the hub director will oversee these four primary functions. In addition, the hub director will teach 6-9 credit-hours of AI related coursework in our undergraduate or graduate business programs. The hub director will report to the faculty director for the AI hub and will work in close collaboration with internal (e.g., students, staff, faculty) and external stakeholders (e.g., industry, alumni) of the WSB. The ideal candidate should have a passion for AI with industry experience, a strong desire to continue to learn and teach AI, and outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. While experience in an academic setting is not required, it is an advantage. We seek a self-motivated, collaborative leader with a proven background in AI.


Principal duties in addition to teaching:

  1. Support research: The AI hub serves as a home for inter-departmental collaborations. The director will foster community for AI researchers within the WSB and offer administrative support for UW-Madison undergraduate and graduate students supporting faculty research.

  2. Nurture industry connections: The director will collaborate with the Executive Director of Industry Relations and other related units within the Wisconsin School of Business and UW-Madison and serve as the focal point of contact for WSB industry partners in AI. On the research front, such industry partnerships and conversations are intended to promote research ideas and help obtain data for empirical research by faculty and PhD students at the WSB.

  3. Manage events: The director will organize faculty and industry speaker events in the AI arena. They will also oversee the organization of an AI conference in the future in collaboration with other schools and colleges on campus.

  4. Manage communications: The director will oversee the AI-related communications at WSB. This includes managing the webpages, posting research papers, promoting AI events, and sharing AI resources (books, papers, articles) with students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • 10% Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within that discipline
  • 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • 5% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of said instructional techniques and programs
  • 5% Presents evaluations of teaching methods and techniques to those in the institution and elsewhere
  • 20% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • 5% Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • 10% Develops grant proposals for instructional development and may serve as principal or co-principal investigator on grants to develop new teaching methods in the discipline
  • 5% May administer budget and personnel for instructional grants and programs
  • 15% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • 10% Manage AI events at the WSB
  • 5% Support AI research at the WSB and manage AI related communications
  • 5% Nurture industry partnerships

Education:
Required: Master's Degree in AI related field


Qualifications:
Required:
- 5 Years of experience in an AI related area

Preferred:
- Teaching experience in an AI related field
- Work experience in a university setting
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- A commitment to student education and strong relationship-building skills

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
