Cox Communications Engineering designs, builds, and operates one of the most capable Broadband Networks in the nation. We are looking to build the engineering workforce of the future by investing in early career engineering candidates and providing rotational work assignments. The Cox Rotations InSide Engineering (RISE) program will enable early career engineering candidates to learn what it takes to design, build and operate the networks of the future. This role requires an individual with a passion for software development, ready to contribute to our mission of delivering top-tier software solutions.
A RISE candidate will have a strong educational background in the following areas:
- Software Engineering
- Communication Protocols
- Internet Protocol Technologies
- Scripting Skills
- Cloud Infrastructure
- Electrical Engineering Principles
- Data Science
- Process Improvement
Over the course of two years, RISE Engineers will embark on a transformative journey consisting of four six-month rotations. During each rotation, they will have the valuable opportunity to engage in a variety of short-term projects spanning the entire Cox Engineering organization. By immersing themselves in different areas, RISE Engineers will develop a comprehensive understanding of our technologies and processes, while also contributing their own expertise to our Software and Automation domains.
This exceptional program empowers our fresh talent to cultivate a diverse perspective on Cox Engineering, fostering their skillsets and preparing them for long-term success in their careers with Cox.
Key Skills and Areas of Growth
- Object oriented programming, such as Python
- Experience with REST APIs and LINUX
- Strong competency in networking technologies, especially layers 1 through 4
- Experience with various Networking Technologies – Wi-Fi, DOCSIS, PON
- Experience with basic network performance & reliability testing concepts such as throughput, packet loss, latency, out-of-sequence packets, etc.
- Strong critical thinking skills a must, ability to create specific action plans & success criteria independently based on general guidance and goals.
- Ability to analyze diverse data sets using Data Science and Advanced Analytics
- Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI and other data visualization toolsets.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices, ensuring your skills remain sharp and relevant.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in software development.
- An understanding or familiarity with cloud platforms, notably Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Solid grasp of software development best practices and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working in an agile development environment, collaborating seamlessly with cross-functional teams.
- Clear and effective communication skills, able to present technical details to a varied audience.
- A keen sense of team spirit, open-mindedness, and a genuine passion for engineering.
