The Catholic Diocese of Memphis is now accepting applications to fill the position of Director of Human Resources. The primary responsibility of the Director is to manage the Human Resources Department and assist the Bishop and Pastors with all aspects of employee relations. Duties will include:

  • Formulate and recommend Human Resources policies and objectives for the Diocese;
  • Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale, including mediating and suggesting solutions in employee disputes;
  • Monitor the Diocese’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices for the Diocese, in consultation with the Diocesan Attorney;
  • Oversee maintenance of accurate and complete personnel records, and ensure that rules concerning confidentiality and retention are followed;
  • Periodically review and make recommendations for changes in the benefit structure to keep the cost of the benefit package under control, and conduct annual open enrollment;
  • Participate in salary surveys, and make recommendations for salary changes;
  • Assist in the selection of Human Resources consultants, insurance brokers, pension administrators and other outside sources as needed;
  • Conduct a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices to keep top management informed of new developments;
  • Keep supervisors informed of significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of objectives, and those which are not being addressed adequately;
  • Effectively communicate changes in labor and employment law to those in a supervisory position in a timely manner.

Qualifications include: must be a practicing Catholic in good standing; have affiliations with successful companies who practice effective Human Resources management; have a generalist background with broad knowledge of employment, compensation, organization planning, employee relations and training and development; hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; and possess effective and clear verbal and written communication skills.

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year
