The Office of Financial Planning and Analysis (OFP&A) within UVAFinance seeks applicants for a Financial Analyst. The Financial Analyst supports small- and large-scale projects and processes across the OFP&A portfolio, primarily in the areas of budget and planning. Additionally, the incumbent supports initiatives that cross UVAFinance and the University as a whole.
OFP&A manages the annual budget development process, including the application of the University Financial Model (UFM) and other cost recoveries. Our team includes cost accounting and fixed assets, whose focus includes the University's fringe benefit rates, facilities and administrative (F&A) recoveries from sponsored research and ensuring the ongoing fiscal integrity of the University through the effective management of all its fixed assets (land, buildings, infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, software, library books, etc.).
We evaluate and provide innovative solutions to ongoing budget and planning needs, inform the strategic planning process, and monitor performance against established budgets by delivering timely and accurate reports and analytics. We engage with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders to provide objective, accurate, and timely information, analyses, and decision-support tools while ensuring a high degree of transparency, collaboration, and compliance. We develop, explain, and submit for approval a broad range of financial reports to internal and external audiences. Our team provides service to the diverse units across Grounds, focusing on anticipating needs, providing appropriate guidance, and supporting data-enhanced decision making at all levels of the institution. We are leaders in the use of UVA's financial and reporting tools and, in collaboration with partners across Grounds, support the development, adoption, and continuous improvement of these tools to improve the quality and efficiency of planning, budgeting, and accounting work for all. Financial Analysts help construct a holistic understanding of financial activity at the University. They may focus on the performance of specific schools or units, or of specific functions, such as budgeting and planning. They conduct assigned financial studies, collecting, analyzing, and presenting financial information. They assist in preparing recommendations for policies, procedures, controls, or actions. They may interpret and apply financial policies. They prepare standard and special studies, reports, analyses. Work is largely conducted independently.
This position requires both independent initiative as well as an ability to fully engage in team collaboration.Goals are set in coordination with the supervisor.Candidate must possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment. This position is currently eligible for telework, but availability in Charlottesville is preferred.
Responsibilities:
* Perform a variety of financial analyses at the unit and institutional levels to support data-enhanced decision making.
* Support the interpretation and implementation of financial management policies and operating practices.
* Work collaboratively with OFP&A and University team members to build and implement a comprehensive and future-oriented budget.
* Support operations and strategic planning with analysis and recommendations based on qualitative and quantitative data.
* Serve as the primary budget and planning contact for one or more units within the University.
* Identify opportunities for continuous improvement by conducting research, networking with colleagues, and designing and delivering recommendations.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Experience:
* At least two years of relevant experience is required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
* Experience supporting competing priorities in a high-visibility office
* Experience working with diverse stakeholders.
* Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities is required.
* Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
* Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
* Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
* Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
* Knowledge of budget, financial operations, and/or financial reporting, especially in a higher education setting are a plus.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,000 - $70,000 (commensurate with qualifications) with UVA Benefits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: Two years of experience in a related field. Six years of progressive, relevant experience in the field of budget analysis, financial planning, or a closely related area may be considered in lieu of degree.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
