Job Title: Civil Engineer: Substation ProjectsCompany: Avangrid NetworksLocation: Orange, CT. OfficeSalary: The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $90k to 104k
 Job Summary The Civil Engineer will be responsible Substation designs for major capitalprojects, input into standards, and training needs.The Lead Civil Engineer in Projects organization is an engineer positionresponsible for designs for major capital projects in a portfolio of Substationprojects. The position is responsible to ensure each project is engineered incompliance with regulations, company standards, and consistently across theboard.Position reports to the Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in crossfunctional project team and support project needs as dictated by the ProjectManager and Unit Manager.Experience with substation civil and structural design and knowledge of and international standards, regulations, and compliance requirements associatedwith power system equipment.Responsibilities -Project detailed engineering, designs and calculations using standardmethodology & principles including all phases such as: scoping andbudgeting, conceptual engineering, engineering design, contractmanagement and design, construction and closeout.-Maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. substation layout, site plan, foundationplan, etc,...).-Develop & specify materials and equipment, assemble documents & otherrequirements for assignments of projects using depth & breadth of expertisein own discipline.-Perform standard and complex civil engineering analyses, designs andcalculations using standard methodology and principles and other viableapproaches. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolveproblems or to improve processes/services-Solve unique and complex civil engineering problems. Analyzes possiblesolutions and asses each using standard procedures related to lines andpower engineering.-Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meet applicablecompany, local, state, and codes and standards.-Ability to collaborate across departments.-Work independently although supervision might be required.Skills and Requirements Technical Skills/Competencies:-Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and EngineeringDesign, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model;Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration,understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationshipsand links across the organization)-Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations andEngineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience, standardization"Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop businesscases and defend in front of stakeholders.")-Engineering documentation – Ability to adequately document and interpretengineering documentation-Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensurecompliance with company standards, specifications, and contractrequirements-Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment– Local, State andFederal Regulatory Standards and requirements-Project Scoping and Estimating-Construction and Outage Sequencing-Substation Foundation Design-Substation Layout-Substation Equipment Specifications-Structure Strength and load Analysis-Substation Material Selection-Substation Civil Specifications-Physical Substation Design-Project Scoping and Estimating-Equipment Specifications-Construction and Outage Sequencing-Industry Codes, Standards, and Regulations-Functional/job/business specific Competencies-Knowledge and experience in Substations Civil design is a must.-Knowledge of the regulatory environment-Knowledge company, local, state, and codes and standards.-Knowledge of Construction for utility environments or large corporations.General Skills / Competencies-Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills to decipher unique technicaland analytical problems,-Proven ability to effectively work in team, proven ability to manage designprojects,-Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technicalconcepts,-Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change andadoption of new technologies.-Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output andincentive mechanisms.-General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability tobalance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuringmaximum return on investment.-Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement andmanagement.-Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels-Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financialjudgment to determine optimal solutions-Awareness and understanding of key business drivers-Ability to devise solutions to both to common and complexproblems/challenges.Education & Experience Required-Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required-3 years minimum relevant experience
