Purpose Statement
The job of Network Administrator is done for the purpose/s of administering, implementing, and maintaining building computer network; and evaluating and providing recommendations regarding complementing network solutions to building's needs.
This job reports to Network Manager.
Essential Functions
  • Attend a variety of meetings (e.g. staff meetings, conferences, in-services, etc.) for conveying and gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Coordinate network-related projects and activities (e.g. project roll-outs, system upgrades, etc.) for meeting department goals and ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
  • Create network-related materials (e.g. documentation of systems configurations, etc.) for providing accurate and up-to-date information on the building's network.
  • Develop computer network plans (e.g. project roll-outs, technology upgrades, etc.) for ensuring the building network meet building network requirements.
  • Maintain computer network for ensuring functionality of the building's network and associated operations.
  • Oversee building network activities and projects (e.g. project-rollout, systems upgrade, etc.) for ensuring continuous network operations within established guidelines.
  • Prepare a variety of materials (e.g. reports, procedures, manuals, etc.) for documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information.
  • Research a variety of network-related topics (e.g. growing trends in networking, possible upcoming government regulations, technology upgrades, networking solutions to current district needs, etc.) for previewing products and providing recommendations to enhance district network operations.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of stakeholders (e.g. network technicians, administrators, etc.) for providing information and direction.
  • Serves as liaison to a variety of stakeholders (e.g. vendors, administrators, etc.) for conveying and receiving information and coordinating district activities.
  • Request to respond to inquiries from supervisors (e.g. network manager, technology manager, CIO, etc.) for providing information and direction which may involve taskings outside of regular business hours.

Other Functions
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; managing technical employees; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include current generation and emerging networking systems; server systems; and associated programming languages.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing priorities; communicating with persons of varied backgrounds and technology expertise; establishing and maintaining effective work relationships; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; providing direction; leadership; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education: Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.
Equivalency: High School diploma with some experience.
