WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward-thinking, open-minded, and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Brandon, SD office, you will be a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) & Maintenance Manager.

  • Responsible for developing, organizing, implementing, administering, and monitoring all HSE programs and Maintenance needs and improvements
  • Ensure thorough implementation and execution of Gates' HSE related programs and processes
  • Ensure all HSE programs comply with company and regulatory requirements
  • Identify HSE hazards and establish controls to mitigate risks
  • Develop and maintain safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures
  • Champion Continuous Improvement events in the Brandon plant

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure ongoing compliance, including all training and record keeping activities in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations
  • Establish, implement, and sustain ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and Gates' HSE Management System
  • Main point of contact for third party management systems audits performed at the facility with responsibility for responding to audit findings including determination of root cause, development and implementation of corrective action, and providing the audit response
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections, and assist with corporate HSE Internal Audits
  • Identify appropriate control methodologies for HSE risk based on priority and the hierarchy of controls
  • Identify and interpret all relevant legislation; advise on requirements to ensure compliance
  • Interface between local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, corporate and insurance carrier representatives to ensure compliance with appropriate requirements
  • Identify, develop, perform, and track HSE/CI training requirements
  • Establish and maintain a contractor HSE program to manage risks associated with contractor activities on-site
  • Develop an Emergency Response plan to all potential emergency situations, conducting regular drills and ensuring corrective actions are identified and implemented
  • Create and manage budgets for HSE activities, and quantify the cost of HSE incidents with cost justification
  • Lead investigations on environmental and safety incidents including near misses, injuries, releases, and non-compliance; ensure that root causes are identified and effective corrective actions are implemented
  • Drive efforts to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing processes including hazardous/solid waste minimization and reduced water/energy consumptions
  • Responsible for managing all requirements related to chemical management including chemical approvals, GHS compliant labeling, employee training, and proper disposal
  • Responsible for establishing specific objectives and targets that address HSE risk reduction, injury prevention, waste elimination, and energy elimination based on risk
  • Coach staff in completion of TIPSS/incident investigation
  • Communicating with staff and employees to drive alignment and consistency to goals and company objectives.
  • Manages performance, productivity, attendance, quality and housekeeping expectations and drives personal accountability. Addresses performance problems, recognition and provides coaching where appropriate. Ensures policies and work practices are administered in a fair and consistent fashion.
  • Ensures accurate reporting and tracking of shift metrics.
  • Work closely with the engineering group on project installations
  • Lead the maintenance department to achieve Maintenance Excellence goals
  • Ensures a continuous focus is placed on process improvement and reduction of waste. Empowers and encourages employees to continually evaluate and improve daily processes.
  • Maintain proper training levels through effective selection, interviewing, and training of personnel
  • Maintenance reporting: review and approve reporting, prepare and enter results, report results as required, enter and review spending data, etc.
  • Evaluate team/department information and apply judgment in setting work group priorities
  • Interpret policies and establish approaches for department

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Business, or closely related field required
  • 5 - 8 years of Health, Safety, and Environment experience required, manufacturing experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of safety and environmental codes, OSHA 1910, EPA regulations, and other regulatory agencies (Lockout-Tagout, Electrical Safety, Ergonomics, Air Quality & Emissions, Energy Management, etc.)
  • Experience with Lean Problem Solving (8D or A3), and Root Cause (5 Why Analysis)
  • Experience with behavior-based safety preferred (DuPont STOP)
  • Experience with permit administration and management: Title V Air Permit, Storm Water, Industrial Waste, etc.
  • Background and expertise in HSE recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance
  • Training in Ergonomics, machine guarding and as a First Aid Responder
  • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively handle conflict, and demonstrate flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • High level interpersonal and leadership skills required; must be able to influence, coach, and collaborate across multiple levels and functions within the company
  • Ability to staff and develop an effective and capable team
  • Experience with acquisition integration preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
