SummaryThe General Manager of Threes Brewing’s flagship Gowanus location is responsible for ensuring both the operational excellence and financial success of the venue, including public and private events. This high profile role focuses on driving the performance of a high-caliber, motivated team while working cross-functionally to align with the broader goals of Threes Brewing, consistently delivering exceptional experiences to our patrons.
As a key member of Threes Brewing’s leadership team, the GM of Gowanus sets and enforces the standards, policies, and procedures for all aspects of the hospitality program at the venue. This includes overseeing bar services, private events, the coffee and restaurant partnerships, and the Shop at Threes. The General Manager directly manages front-of-house staff and leads the floor managers, shift supervisors, and event captains.
The General Manager is tasked with optimizing sales and profitability by focusing on service quality, staff training, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and fostering strong relationships within the local community and beyond. Acting as the face of Threes Brewing Gowanus, the GM is a critical driver of our reputation and success.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral Management & Administrative
- Act as the public face of Threes’ flagship location, shaping the tone and atmosphere of the space
- Maintain high standard of excellence and efficiency within the hospitality team at the venue, delivering exceptional daily service that cultivates repeat business and customer loyalty
- Take full ownership of the P&L for Threes Brewing Gowanus, while setting strategic budgets and goals to drive success and ensure target financial performance
- Focus on driving revenue and cutting costs, while preserving the integrity of the Threes program and ensuring a positive experience for both guests and employees
- Principal architect for goal setting/KPIs, feedback, and encouragement of team
- Develop, maintain, and continuously update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and accountability systems for the team, incorporating weekly reports, regular performance reviews, and clearly defined annual goals
- Communicate details regarding company programs and initiatives to staff, partners, and guests
- Liaise with ops/finance for Gowanus retail operations payroll, invoices, payables, and receivables
- Forge relationships with neighboring businesses and communities to create new opportunities and partnerships
Bar Operations & Shift Execution
- Direct manager for all customer-facing staff, including AGM, shop manager, floor managers, event captains, shift supervisors, and sound techs
- Create weekly FOH schedules for all Gowanus departments, including Shop and all events
- Be present on the floor during service, supporting staff and interacting with clientele; must work 2 floor shifts at a minimum
- Observe employees and guests to ensure the safe service of alcohol
- Institute daily pre-shift meetings to educate FOH staff on daily/weekly programming, beer and beverages, specials, and brand
- Attract talent, coach, inspire, and train employees in all positions in the department to deliver best-in-class service and to represent the Threes Brewing brand to the world; ensure employee performance to expectations
- Manage all cocktail-related processes, from seasonal menus and recipes to pricing to quality control, as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages
- Create and maintain the desired atmosphere by selecting music, adjusting volume and lighting throughout the shift, and updating signage and promotional materials as needed
- Set comp goals, track metrics, and deliver monthly analysis with recommendations to reduce comps
- Oversee all purchasing and receiving of wet/dry goods to ensure all products are properly accounted for
- Support proper inventory systems to maintain efficient ordering and financial reporting
- Uphold the bar budget, maintaining beverage COGS in line with predetermined expectations
- Point person for 3rd party partners, including kitchen, coffee shop, record partners and talent, ensuring two-way communication on needs, priorities and activities
- Work closely with the maintenance team and porters to ensure all areas, equipment, and spaces are consistently clean, organized, and in optimal condition
- Supervise regulatory compliance with DOH, DOB, FDNY, etc., interfacing with 3rd party service providers as needed
- Coordinate with the kitchen manager and floor managers to ensure full compliance with DOH protocols, organizing walk-throughs, checklists, and reminders for all relevant teams
- Oversee on-site cash management and resolving any discrepancies
- Institute effective promotions and programs to drive revenue and showcase our portfolio of products
- Review in-person and online customer feedback, and draft responses to address concerns or complaints, serving as the primary point of contact for customer issues
- Support private events team in all aspects of preparing for and executing reservations and private parties
Public Events
- Lead collaborative development of public events calendar with specific targets that support growth in foot traffic and accretive branding
- Identify customer targets for public events and work with marketing to develop a plan to attract them
- Work with marketing to customize posters and menus for public events
- Oversee P&L to safeguard economic viability and inform future events
- Own and ensure teams have a detailed run-of-show for all events
- Supervise inventory management for equipment, props, and other event team needs
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years bar/restaurant management experience
- Proven leadership ability
- Strong knowledge of the beverage category including craft beer, wine and spirits
- Expert in food and beverage procedures, controls and administration
- Excellent budgeting and financial planning skills
- Ability to function in a demanding environment
- Expert in process improvement
- Outstanding "people" skills
- Proven ability to balance quality and profit
- Flexible schedule, involving late hours
- Existing networks (bartenders, barbacks, managers, servers, etc.) a plus
- NYC Health Department Certificate and TIPS Certified
- Proficient in POS systems, scheduling software, communication tools, Microsoft Office, and a variety of basic technology applications
