Genetics Laboratory Technician

As a Genetics Laboratory Technician at IDEXX BioAnalytics, you will be a key contributor to one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world. In this role, you will perform molecular laboratory testing that helps serve professionals in the biomedical and life science fields across the globe. In This Role:

• You will be using different PCR techniques, capillary electrophoresis machines, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that allow us to generate profiles of cell lines for authentication purposes in support of the scientific community
• You will be performing diagnostic tests on cell lines, tissue samples, and possible blood samples that we receive in our lab
• You will be responsible for setting up and running lab tests and reading and releasing results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
• You can expect to specialize in Genetics; testing of cell lines to create a STR (short tandem repeat) profile used to authenticate a cell line, performing Genetics Contamination Quality Control on rodent colonies, and read sequencing reactions on unique cell lines

What You'll Need To Succeed:

• Nucleic acid extractions from several specimens' types.
• Micro-pipetting skills.
• Ability to set up high-throughput molecular reactions, specifically PCR (Polymerase Chain reaction).
• A general science background, including genetics, is helpful.
• 4 - year's degree in a Science-related field is preferred
• You have a positive attitude and love to bring that energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues
• You are looking forward to working in a team
• You concentrate on the details and can work reliably and precisely
• You have a great sense of team spirit and responsibility
• Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals

Schedule:

• The hours for this position are Monday - Friday 8 am-5 pm.
• The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
