Overview
Job Summary
Provides assessment, education, and clinical support for the breastfeeding family in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Serves as a clinical resource for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to promote optimal patient care and assists with the marketing of lactation services to professional and non-professional consumers.
Essential Functions
- Performs and/or assists with treatments, therapies, and procedures.
- Provides and assesses the effectiveness of patient and family education in the field of breastfeeding and human lactation.
- Obtains necessary information to develop, implement, and update the individualized lactation care plan.
- Participates in department performance activities with focus on patient safety and excellence in customer service.
- Plans and implements lactation in-services for nursing team members and the community.
- Takes responsibility for maintaining knowledge of current trends in lactation, breastfeeding tools/products, and knowledge in current evidenced-based practice.
- Utilizes verbal and non-verbal communication in interactions with patients, families, and physicians.
- Assists in marketing projects and events.
- Serves as a resource for nursing team and providers in the field of breastfeeding and human lactation.
