Job Description
Position Summary:
The Tech - MA II performs tasks (within the scope of their practice/licensing requirements) required to ensure efficient and effective delivery of patient care in the clinical environment. Care shall be delivered in accordance with acceptable medical practice standards, department practice standards and issued orders.
Essential Job functions:
• Prepares the examination room. Escorts patient into the room. Cleans examination room when exam is complete.
• Initiates and maintains peripheral intravenous (I.V.) lines, administers IV fluids, infusions, and medications as directed.
• Medication administration through various routes to include IM, IN, Port access, SC, or PO as indicated.
• May provide advanced life support in the resuscitation of patients in cardiac arrest including airway management, manual defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing.
• Assists with obtaining information for patient care such as lab reports, imaging studies, and chart notes from outside clinics.
• Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingerstick.
• Provides non-direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel.
• Ensures proper preparation for patient visit. Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visit.
• Maintains efficient patient flow.
• Communicates & provides care consistent with age, cultural, spiritual and developmental needs of the patient.
• Answers the telephone in an appropriate manner. Directs calls and/or takes accurate messages.
• Consistently and accurately stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies.
• Reconciles encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines.
• Effectively communicates problems, concerns or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager appropriately and promptly.
• Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Documents appropriately in EHR.
• Reviews and updates medication list and accurately documents known allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Demonstrates an understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures.
• Accurately documents allergies in EHR.
• Facilitates transition of care from UCC to Hospital and/or EMS
• Employs appropriate and timely use of Tasking in EHR.
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent, required
• AAS in Emergency Medical Services and current State of Oregon EMT Paramedic license required. (If National Paramedic License is held at time of hire, OR State Paramedic License is required within 6 months of hire date to ensure continued employment).
• CPR, BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required, depending in department requirements.
• Provide prompt, accurate service to internal and external customers.
• Ability to be a team player.
• Ability to deal with difficult personalities.
• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner.
• Basic proficiency in computer use.
• Knowledge of medical office and terminology preferred.
• Experience with patient care equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of clinic's exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
• Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
• Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care and interventions to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed provider.
• Basic knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT/HCPS coding procedures.
• Strong typing skills and working knowledge of computer systems, particularly with a windows-based environment.
• Communicate effectively with customer and co-workers. Basic knowledge of medical office documentation standards.
