Mental Health Specialist - Bowling Green, OH
34 hours per week, Monday - Thursday
$25.06 - $34.92 per hour
Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and licensed as a social worker , professional clinical counselor, or marriage/family therapist.

Summary: Plans and implements quality mental health to children and families in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Implement and monitor comprehensive, quality mental health in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio Early Childhood Education program requirements, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licensing regulations and policies and procedures.
  2. Complete individual mental health child assessments on a schedule of sufficient frequency to enable the timely and effective identification of and intervention in family and staff concerns about a child's mental health; discuss observations and recommendations with staff and/or parents.
  3. Ensure the referral process for children and families with suspected Mental Health needs is implemented.
  4. Implement parent trainings to promote social emotional development.
  5. Promote the social and emotional development of children, staff and parents by providing training and information on mental health and community resources.
  6. Develop Behavior Support Plans for children as needed.
  1. Provide hands-on support and coaching for teachers in order to implement strategies on the Behavior Support Plans.
  2. Review developmental screenings referred from the Inclusion team; conduct observations as needed and make recommendations.
  3. Maintain and monitor records and submit accurate reports and requested information on a timely basis.
  4. Organize and/or attend staff, parent, community and state meetings to build effective relationships, provide training, report updates and stay informed on the latest research and best practices in the Early Childhood field.
  5. Ensure a team approach to service delivery; communicate, coordinate and collaborate with internal staff and external partners as appropriate.
  6. Other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in the team process, both within the department and the corporation.
  2. Attend internal and external meetings.
  3. Pursue continuous education and professional development opportunities.
  4. Travel out-of-town with occasional overnight stays.
  5. May occasionally be required to work in excess of scheduled work hours per week in order to fulfill position requirements. Overtime must be pre-approved by supervisor.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education: Bachelor degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and licensed as a social worker , professional clinical counselor, or marriage/family therapist. Prefer Ohio Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Professional Credential.
Experience: Three to five years experience working with at -risk children birth to 5 years old and families or in social services andone to three years experience working with word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and database software and management information systems.
Additional Requirements:
  1. Initial and periodic Motor Vehicle Records checks, maintain a valid driver's license, and maintain a safe driving record.
  2. Must have insured, dependable transportation available for daily use.
  3. Initial and periodic physical exams required.
  4. Must submit to initial and/or periodic state and/or federal criminal checks.
  5. Must submit to initial and periodic drug and alcohol testing.
  6. Ability to be reached by cellular phone during business hours and after hours.
