Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children, building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning, ending child hunger in the U.S. and educating and protecting kids around the world.

SCAN works to create systemic change by elevating diverse youth voices to drive meaningful policy change and support Save the Children’s programs benefiting children in the U.S. and around the world. The Student Engagement Senior Advisor will lead the design and execution of strategies to engage high school and college students in SCAN’s political advocacy campaigns that support Save the Children’s mission. In this role, you will be instrumental in growing and enhancing the SCUS and SCAN school club programs, while directly managing both the Student Alumni program and the National Youth Champions program.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Program Development and Management (55%)

  • Oversee SCAN’s National Student Ambassador Program: Provide strategic leadership for growth and engagement, design monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and manage all related platforms, programming, communication, and initiatives to ensure continuous improvement and impact.
  • Lead the Student Alumni Program: Manage SCAN’s newly launched Student Alumni Program, offering graduating students a platform to remain involved in SCAN’s advocacy, fundraising, and engagement efforts. This program also supports alumni in building professional skills as they transition into their careers.
  • Manage the National Youth Champions Program: Lead SCAN’s National Youth Champions Program, which launched in 2024 and is entering its second year. Recruit and mentor 10-15 youth from the Student Ambassador Program to serve as National Youth Champions. These youth will commit to a two-year term, focusing on collective impact, governance, and youth mentorship.
  • Develop Comprehensive Student Training: Collaborate with SCAN teams and programs to create and implement a cohesive, user-friendly, and impactful training approach. Ensure all webinars, in-person trainings, and national Advocacy Summits are well-organized and contribute to the strategic goals of SCAN.

Strategy and Planning (25%)

  • Lead Strategic Planning and Goal Setting: Oversee the planning, goal setting, reporting, and budgeting processes for the Student Engagement team to align with SCAN's overall objectives and priorities.
  • Design Evaluation and Monitoring Frameworks: Develop evaluation plans, tools, and data collection methods to assess the impact of the Student Engagement Program. Ensure both quantitative and qualitative metrics are used to monitor program quality and effectiveness.
  • Foster Cross-Team Collaboration: Prioritize collaboration across SCAN teams and SCUS departments to ensure integration and alignment of student engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate on National Campaign Development: Work closely with the National Campaigns team and Volunteer Leadership and Training teams to create student-specific resources for SCAN’s priority federal advocacy campaigns.

Operational Excellence (20%)

  • Supervise and Develop Team Members: Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff (two Lead Associates), clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Enhance Program Visibility: Support the creation and implementation of communication and media strategies to elevate program visibility through external communications, presentations, and related activities.
  • Oversee Departmental Resources and Platforms: Take ownership of managing departmental training, resources, and data within key platforms, ensuring seamless integration and efficient use of these tools to support program objectives.
