Summary:
The Director for Battery Management Systems will lead a multifunctional team using all tools available, guide, coach, motivate and lead the team to understand and deliver on business and career objectives, translate strategy to establish team objectives, lead technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and work through technical issues. Utilize deep knowledge in battery management solutions and provide next generation ideas and implementations of world-class products.
Provide pro-active and clear communication to cross-functional leaders including developing mitigation plans and recommendations, drive a culture of high performance and ensure performance concerns are identified and addressed in a timely manner and actively contribute to managing and delivering on time and to budget.
Essential Functions:
- Direct the design, development and specification of electronic products including hardware, firmware, and software for battery systems and IIoT systems.
- Determine specifications, operating parameters, costs and manufacturability requirements.
- Determine budget requirements and manage spend to remain in budget.
- Direct modeling such as spice-based circuit simulation and battery simulation for state of health, state of function and predictive life estimation. Define and create embedded software specifications.
- Write and direct creation of technical specifications, users manuals, complete verification, and test plans/reports to documentation standards.
- Specify and direct design of manufacturing test fixture electronics and mechanical interfaces.
- Plan and prepare products for introduction to manufacturing including providing initial manufacturing quotes, engage in cost reduction and optimization to enable profitable product designs.
- Interact with engineering and production departments for product development, testing and validation.
- Identify and interact with internal and external suppliers for component supply and assembly needs.
- Give presentations to customers and co-workers as required.
- Mentor staff.
- Provide capability to assist with product development and debug.
- Provide customer-facing interaction to solve problems and create designs to satisfy customer requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, Master’s Degree preferred, other advanced degrees considered.
- 20 or more years of product design and release experience.
- In-depth knowledge of battery controls and battery technology.
- Experience developing successful battery management systems.
- Extensive knowledge of motive power and stationary battery systems.
- 8+ years engineering management experience.
- 10+ years of experience with embedded hardware and software development.
- Experience in handling multiple requirements from customers, product management, support and other key stakeholders and help negotiate the best possible solution to maximize product value with limited technical resources.
- Experience in leading and providing mentoring, coaching and guidance to engineering managers and engineers.
- Ability to work cross-functionally across multiple teams and departments – identifying any hurdles to progress and improving internal and cross-functional communications and processes.
- Able to motivate, inspire and drive engineering teams to drive a culture of excellence and pride of ownership.
- Experience in working with product management and product engineering to map product roadmaps to engineering schedules.
- Experience with summarizing and presenting key information, and proven ability to influence and drive decisions at the executive level.
- Proven ability to drive the engineering teams to be accountable for on-time delivery of quality features and products.
- Proven track record of successful rollouts of products to production for aftermarket and OEM customers.
- Strong customer service mindset and great attention to detail.
- Able to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences and levels.
- Able to facilitate resolution of technical conflicts and help the team with trade-offs.
- Strong understanding of the direction of technological innovation and ability to bring that expertise to the company.
