The Aircraft Mechanic II (UH-60, CH-47, AH-64, LUH-72) MWO Travel Team maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.

  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls, and their components.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.
  • Applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and/or operation.
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft technical manuals, maintenance information, blueprints, or manufacturers’ manuals and action messages.
  • Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services.
  • Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections.
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment as required.
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts; broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair; basic knowledge of electrical theory; thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears.
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance from a supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Possesses the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by the mechanic.
  • Required three years aviation maintenance experience, three years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • Required level of experience necessary to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by skill class Mechanic I and must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Required thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures, and replacement of parts; broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears.
  • Working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System, ULLSAE.
  • A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
  • Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Must be able to travel 75% of the time.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Physical/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished using mechanical devices.
  • Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close proximity and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts in the shop area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus.
