The Pharmacist Coord, Ambulatory is responsible for dispensing prescriptions and monitoring ofmedication therapy in accordance with all applicable regulations and standards. Organize and manage daily Ambulatory Pharmacy Department operations to ensure efficient, safe and timely accomplishment of established patient-focused duties and expectations. Troubleshoot internal department issues and implement appropriate resolutions. Act as liaison between Pharmacy and other healthcare professionals as necessary.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Pharmacist Coordinator, Ambulatory at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Complies with all state and federal regulations and Medical Center policies and procedures relating to drug dispensing, including appropriate handling of drug products, adherence to security procedures, and completion of necessary documentation. This includes appropriate control and dispensing of controlled dangerous substances and investigational drugs.

  • Reviews and dispenses prescriptions and clarifies any and all potential problems with prescribing physician.

  • Monitors patient drug therapy regimens for allergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, and potential adverse reactions.

  • Performs assigned unit inspections to assure proper maintenance and storage of medication supplies, including emergency drug supplies.

  • Oversees activities of pharmacists and ancillary personnel (Pharmacy Technicians and Couriers).

  • Employs principles of safe medication practice as dictated by departmental and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Assume all responsibilities and duties of Pharmacist-In-Charge as required by NJ Board of Pharmacy: The Pharmacist-In-Charge participates in all daily pharmacy operations and provides direction, and guidance to all other ambulatory pharmacy team members as needed.

  • Responsible for maintaining highest levels of overall Customer Service and satisfaction for the ambulatory pharmacy. Identifies and corrects potential problems and performs service recovery as needed.

  • Troubleshoot daily interactions and instances that deviate from standard and require oversight or mediation for resolution.

  • Assist Manager in development of and coordinate implementation of process improvement projects within Pharmacy. Responsible for implementation of site quality assurance processes. Reports results and planned improvements to manager of ambulatory pharmacy services.

  • Responsible for overall Pharmacy Inventory, maximizing the number of Inventory turns, while minimizing the out-of-stock items.

  • Responsible for efficiency and quality of site-specific satellite ambulatory pharmacy location operations including any related drop-off/pick-up sites.

  • Being available for emergency contact 'after hours' for the pharmacy.

  • Stay current with regulatory agency rules and expectations and assure Pharmacy Department compliance.

  • Assure compliance with drug purchasing, storing and security regulations and requirements.

  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).

  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy.

  • Working knowledge of retail/ambulatory pharmacy via a minimum of 3 years experience.

  • Evidence of written communication skills via academic or work-related publications or presentations.

  • Working knowledge of New Jersey drug laws.

  • Understanding of, and experience with, ambulatory pharmacy technology (computers, workflow etc.).

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • General computer competency including word process and spreadsheet utilities.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to be effectively understood in day-to-day functions and when training or orienting employees.

  • Negotiation, bargaining and collaborative judgment to reach appropriate compromise in conflict resolution.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Pharmacist License.
