Summary

The principal fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by serving as the spiritual, educational, and managerial leader of the school. The principal is charged with the implementation of the philosophy, mission, objectives, and the overall management of the school. The principal is responsible for the professional effectiveness of the staff, the educational progress of the students, as well as the relationship within the entire school community.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  2. Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  3. Develops a school climate reflecting Catholic identity
  4. Supports and adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church, the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees, and policies and procedures of the Archdiocese
  5. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  6. Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others.
  7. Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization, including client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors' names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  8. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  9. Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Lead and Develop School Personnel

  1. Directly supervises and assesses annually all faculty and staff.
  2. Guides the faculty and staff and provides servant-leadership both spiritually and academically.
  3. Develops a sound program for the spiritual and academic growth of the faculty and staff through in-service, conferences, and orientation workshops.
  4. Handles grievances of all faculty and staff.
  5. Heads the final dismissal of faculty and staff who do not perform satisfactorily.
  6. Promotes good communication between the faculty, staff, and Board.
  7. Identifies needs for the hiring of personnel, oversees the search, and conducts the interviews for needed personnel.

Oversee Curriculum and Educational Planning

  1. Oversees the evaluation and development of all curriculum and books.
  2. Ensures that sound educational and academic goals are set.
  3. Ensures that the school is well equipped and well supplied with teaching materials, supplies, and resources as finances allow.
  4. Leads the school in all legal matters pertaining to education by staying abreast of legal requirements and trends.
  5. Utilizes the resources and participates appropriately with organizations such as TCCB ED and the Department of Catholic Schools, in order to keep abreast of current, major trends in education in general and Catholic education in particular.
  6. Files all required paperwork with the Department of Catholic Schools and TCCB ED, including attendance records, enrollment, annual reports, accreditation reports, etc.
  7. Oversees the development of the annual school calendar.
  8. Oversees all achievement and standardized testing.
  9. Holds regular faculty and staff meetings.
  10. Attends all board meetings.
  11. Leads the school in acquiring and maintaining TCCB ED Accreditation.

Interact With Students and Parents

  1. Oversees the re-enrollment and enrollment drive annually and makes the final admission decision.
  2. Regulates and enforces discipline, both behavioral and mental.
  3. Answers parents’ concerns and sets up conferences with faculty and staff.
  4. Oversees and plans spiritual development by obtaining speakers and conducts mass weekly and speaks in Mass occasionally.
  5. Ascertains that student records and transcripts are adequate, accurate, and administered legally with the assistance of the office.

Plan and Monitor School Finances

  1. Leads the School Board in preparing an annual school budget.
  2. Oversees budget compliance throughout the fiscal year.
  3. Approves requests for purchases by the faculty and staff.
  4. Oversees the collection of tuition accounts, all accounts receivables and payables.
  5. Shares financial information with the school’s accountant to ensure the school’s obligations are paid on time.

Lead Institutional Advancement

  1. Develops and maintains a good public relations program with school family, local church ministries, and the general public. Looks for opportunities to promote the school in churches and mission committees and all community organizations.
  2. Leads the school in the ongoing process of strategic planning.
  3. Maintains regular communication with the constituencies of the school through newsletters, direct mail, weekly news, and the website.
  4. Oversees the planning of long and short-term fundraising endeavors.
  5. Fosters good relationships with all churches in the community.
  6. Oversees and develops a strategy to address the annual fund need.
  7. Builds relationships with donors and prospective donors.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  1. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development.
  2. Master’s degree.
  3. 18 credit hours in educational administration and supervision courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate for a principal.

Experience

  1. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching.
  2. License and Credentials.
  3. Reliable transportation.
  4. Valid driver license.
  5. Valid vehicle insurance.

Minimum Knowledge And Skills

  1. Provides for an orderly school environment and promotes student self-discipline.
  2. Develops faculty and student/parent handbooks in accordance with diocesan guidelines.
  3. Completes and submits all official forms required by the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Office, TCCBED, and other public agencies.
  4. Implements and reviews long-range strategic planning.
  5. Promotes healthy staff morale and professionalism.
  6. Participates in professional development, including Archdiocesan principal meetings and in-services.
  7. Establishes and implements technology goals for the school.
  8. Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
  9. Knowledge of instructional methods/strategies and curriculum differentiation.
  10. Knowledge of child and adolescent development, learning, and behavior.
  11. Knowledge of the content and the methods of religious education.
  12. Knowledge of effective assessment methods.
  13. Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  14. Able to work well with others in the school community.
  15. Able to work independently and self-motivate.
  16. Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  17. Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format.
  18. Skill in job appropriate technology.
  19. Skill in critical thinking and planning.
  20. Skill in managing conflicts effectively.
  21. Skill in organizational management and delegation of responsibilities.
  22. Skill in using group process skills effectively with various school communities.
  23. Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  24. Must have good written and verbal skills.
  25. Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
